Day 3: My favorite television program
I had trouble choosing, but I'm going to have to go with this one:
Nobuta wo Produce
The plot sounds so trite when you just read the summary, but there's so much more to it. The title is 'Nobuta wo Produce', but it's really about producing Shuji Kiritani. Kiritani may be ~that popular boy~ who befriends the girl who no one likes and the boy everyone thinks is a huge weirdo in every cliche high school movie ever, but he's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. He's dating a girl he has no feelings for in order to maintain his image. He views everything down to what he eats and who he talks to and how much he appears to know as part of the game that he considers his high school years. He's smart, he's funny, he's (apparently, I don't see it) attractive, but he's completely and totally miserable. And then this girl who's so scared of the world that she can barely hold her head up and this boy who can't tell how he's supposed to act in any given situation come along and it's the first time he's really happy. I've watched this drama about four or five times over and nearly every episode still moves me in a way that almost nothing else does. So basically I don't care if the plot is the worst cliche ever. It's brilliantly executed and it makes me feel everything the characters are feeling.
Personally, my favorite character is Bando. She's such a horrible bully, but it's so obviously rooted in how she's been treated by others that it hurts to watch. I cry like a baby every time I watch the 114 festival episode, seriously, because I really believe that she wants to break out of that cycle of abusing others and being abused herself.
