Through my entire life I have had a hatred of dentists. They never seem to agree with each other on what I need, they poke me to death with that stupid-ass thing they use to check for cavities, I would rather have my appendix burst (again) than have one more novocaine shot, they always seem to think I need some urgent procedure and then book me an appointment that is months away, and really, their work is just sub-par.
Case in point: My filling behind my front teeth.
Which has fallen out. FOR THE SECOND TIME IN TWO YEARS.
I initially got it filled in June of 2008, at Aspen Dental (NEVER go there!!!!!!!). Soon after I switched dentists for oh so many reasons and went to a non-chain dentist. When they went through my x-rays they thought that that filling was years old. They could hardly believe that I had gotten it done 6 months ago. I didn't think much of it, since I'm not a dentist and I don't really know anything about filling life spans and what not.
Fast forward to the MORNING AFTER MY WEDDING, which happened to be a day less than a year after I had gotten the filling at Aspen. I wake up and find a hole behind my front teeth because, yep, my filling had fallen out. So we called up Aspen and they said they would refill the filling for free since it had been less than a year since they filled it.
So we got to push back our honeymoon a few days and go in to get my tooth filled. Much fun was had by all, except me because I think I'm starting to develope a phobia of that needle, and really, numb mouth is no fun. I figured everything was all done and fixed and I could go back to my new dentist and leave Aspen behind for good finally (it took a lot for me not to laugh in their face when they said I should set up my next cleaning with them soon).
Fast forward to this morning. I'm brushing my teeth as usual (with a toothbrush, not a pick axe) when I feel a weird little hard bit in my mouth. I figured I had just not reached something stuck in my teeth last night (I still kinda have little indents from where my wisdom teeth were removed, so I guessed it might have been stuck in there). As soon as I finished rinsing out my mouth I felt behind my front teeth and there was a familiar feeling of a hole. And lo and behold, what do I see when I use a mirror? My filling is GONE. AGAIN.
This time it has most certainly been quite a bit less than a year!
WTF am I supposed to do now? Do I try and get Aspen to fill it for free again, knowing that their shoddy work will most likely land me back there in less than a year to start the fun all over again? Do I go to my usual dentist, have them do it (hopefully better) and just eat the cost (my dental insurance is pretty much crap)? Should I call my insurance company and ask them? I don't know if that would help or not, especially since that wasn't the insurance I had when I got the initial filling, but I figure any insurance company would rather not pay anything than something, so they could perhaps give me an idea of what to do.
I really have no idea what to do here. I'm afraid the longer I go without it being filled, the more likely I am to have something awful happen to my teeth, like get food stuck in the hole, or bacteria growing in there making a new cavity and the hole needing to be drilled :,( bigger, or something worse.
Anyone have any ideas for me? I'll take anything at this point!
I think I'm also gonna post this in bad_service (I still have no clue how to make someone's user name or comm show up with that little symbol and become a link to there) to get some more ideas too (and hopefully not get any drama).
In other news my office is still fucking freezing.
Plus my boss isn't here today (yay), but I have no tests scheduled and therefore nothing to do, so I have to kill time until I go home (not yay). *sigh*
