yay for guinea pigs!

Yesterday Dan and I went shopping for some new work clothes for me (finally!). I was in desperate need of pants and some new shirts wouldn't hurt, so we went to Target and actually found some really cute things there. I also got an awesome green raincoat/tranchcoat that I love. I hope it rains soon :P

We also stopped by Pet Supplies Plus (that's the green and yellow one, right?) for some more rabbit and guinea pig pellets and hay. We also got them some organic barley treats which they go nuts for.

While we were there a family was picking out guinea pigs from their prison, I mean cage. I hung around them for a bit looking at the cute pigs they were picking out (by themselves without a sales person, but I have no idea if that's the norm or not, just seemed weird to me. They were probably better off without someone spewing the garbage they tell them to tell potential owners anyway). I asked the mom if she had had pigs before and she said no, and I told her I had two of my own. I was really glad, and kinda surprised, that she seemed interested in what I knew about them.

I told them all about guinealynx.com and a quick rundown of how to build a C&C cage and I even sexed and gave a quick once over to their new pigs. Pretty certain they were both male, something came out when I pushed :P They were buying two, by the way, which is awesome. Their son (it was mom, dad, and son and daughter) seemed to have done a lot of research on them. He knew all about them needing hay and nail clipping, and obviously that they are social animals. I was really glad to see a family responsibly getting pets! They did their research BEFORE walking into a store and going "omgsocutemusthave!" Even if they were being bought for children, they were probably around 10 at least, the parents genuinley seemed like they were interested in the animals and would be making sure they were taken care of.

Even if they were pet store animals and the most responsible route would have been to go to a rescue, I think these pigs will have a good life. Plus I have checked myself, there are really no pigs in this area, at least not shown on petfinder last I checked. I feel good that I could at least help some pigs have a better life :)
