Name: Q
Age: Infinite. Seriously. It's been hinted that he and the other members of his race were around before the Big Bang.
What's Okay To Mention Around Him:
Just about anything. He's been around - literally - forever, very little shocks him. He is, however, a mercurial personality... which is a nice way of saying he's absolutely manic and unpredictable. It's hard to tell what will tickle or annoy him. He's generally against slavery, material greed, and meaningless destruction; this doesn't mean he's against the suffering or killing of mortal beings on principle, however. He just sees other races as we would see insects (and humans as particularly interesting little insects).
What isn't OK to mention around him (if your character knows about it) is the Q Civil War, his inability to 'get anywhere' with Capt. Picard, or the brief period of time he spent being a mortal human as a form of punishment. He'll get really touchy.
Abilities:
Anything he wants. He has limitless ability - conjuring up objects or even living things, pulling people into demi-planes of his own creation, telepathy, telekinesis, traveling through time and dimensions at will... really anything. What he's loathe to admit, though, is that he's NOT omniscient. (It's possible he chooses not to be, but this is how I'm playing him.) He can't tell exactly what someone will say before they say it, and there's too much uncertainty for him to accurately predict a being's actions.* He's a good guesser, and preternaturally quick on his feet, but that's it. And while he can dominate a person's mind and 'puppeteer' them, he rarely does so. Where's the fun in that?
*On a related note, all Q are particularly fond of games of chance. It's the one activity where they can feel like they're not completely in control.
Notes for the Psychics:
Hahaha oh man. You sure you wanna go in there? A psychic wouldn't be able to read his mind if he didn't want them to. He's usually a blank slate - and when he isn't, he's trying to fool someone. But if he's feeling particularly sadistic (or is attempting to teach a fellow all-powerful being), he may truly open himself. If someone saw inside his mind, it'd be an ever-shifting multidimensional vista of space-time and a sense of ancient, vicious, insidiously gleeful power.
Can I shapeshift/bodyswap/spit at/step on/etc?:
With the bodyswapping/shapeshifting... it either wouldn't work or he'd change right back. But if your character were to do any of these things, be prepared for a miffed omnipotent being on your hands.
Hugging/Kissing/Other non-violent physical contact:
John De Lancie, the actor who portrays (this) Q, once said that Q "isn't merely bisexual, but bispecial". To be blunt, he really doesn't care who he flirts with or bangs. He's more tolerant of humans and other mortals than most of the Continuum (which says a lot) - but he's got to justify to himself and others that whoever it is, they're worthy of his affection. This almost always means testing them in some way, usually more than once. So really, Q's a being who you're better off being disliked by. If he likes you, really likes you... better watch your back.
Maim/Murder/Death:
All Q are immortal and cannot be killed by almost any means. Almost. It's been shown that, although they seem to be omnipotent to most races, they hold no real power against any of their own kind. One Q can maim or murder another, on the off chance it wants to. In the novels, this has extended to include other omnipotent beings. So gods, Endless, and other all-powerful beings can hurt him, but I doubt he'd stay in one place long enough for them to really kill him. In any case no, I'd ask that you not go that far. But hurt him if you want! It might be fun! ♥
This is taken from an episode of Star Trek: Voyager, in which another Q requests asylum on the ship because he wants to commit suicide, which is illegal in the Continuum.
