Yesterday I took Faith to Petsmart. We go there a lot since it's close to our house (when we're in NoVA, anyway), and it's a great place to train in a distracting environment. Well, if you've been to Petsmart, you know the kind of dogs people generally bring in. In this area, at least, the majority of the visiting dogs are either annoying, tiny, flexi-leashed dogs whose owners think that a six pound dog needs no training or underexercised and copiously salivating large breeds dragging around their people. Faith may have her blonde moments, but she generally has some manners, and I guess the manager has been impressed with her. He's asked me a few times before if I wanted to work as a pet training person, and I always kind of just laughed, but yesterday he was really serious about it. He gave me a bunch of business cards and got one of the other training people to come talk to me. It was kind of flattering (even though it's just Petsmart). I think it would be a cool job because I would get to bring Faith with me, but I'm really not qualified at all to be a dog trainer. Faith is the only dog I have ever really worked with, and because she is a Standard Poodle, she is pretty much smarter than most other animals (including some people I know). I sort of wish he hadn't brought it up, though, because now I'll be nervous and hoping I don't run into him next time I take her.
