Welcome to omniocular's August Deathly Hallows Challenge! This challenge is for all gen fiction and artwork about missing scenes, unanswered questions, alternate points-of-view, and speculation related to Harry Potter and the Dealthy Hallows.
All stories and artwork submitted for this challenge must be related to the story told in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, including its back story, history, and/or epilogue, and all submissions must fit into the canon of the Harry Potter series. For the purpose of this challenge, we are defining "canon" to mean "the seven published books and nothing else"; whether you consider information provided in interviews and supplemental materials is entirely up to you.
This does not mean that you must write only what you think J.K. Rowling would have written if she had the time; all it means is that no matter what your idea is or how much you want to shake things up, the result must fit within the story in the books. More specifically: you can't ignore canon deaths or the epilogue or particular events just because you feel like it. But if you're clever, you can find a way to work with anything.
Below we have compiled a list of over 250 prompts for fiction and artwork. Each person may claim two prompts at a time, and each prompt can be claimed only once. Please leave a comment to this post naming the prompt or prompts you wish to claim. If you finish your assignment(s) before the end of the month, feel free to claim another prompt for another piece of work. If you claim two prompts, you can create two separate works or combine them in one. Likewise, if you have an idea that suits the challenge that is not listed as a prompt, you are more than welcome to submit it.
The challenge is open to everyone. All submissions must be gen; that is, they cannot focus on romantic or sexual relationships. Members may post their submissions at any time according to the posting guidelines. Non-members should post their work in their own journals with the appropriate headers and give us a link either as a comment on this post or via email at omnio_mods @ yahoo.com, and we'll post a link on the community.
Note: We require that summaries and authors notes containing spoilers be placed behind an lj-cut until this Saturday, August 4. After that, we will not require the lj-cuts but we still expect the appropriate spoiler warnings to be included in the headers.
The challenge will run until August 31. On September 1, we will post a master list of all submissions. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Beware: The prompts list below contains many, many spoilers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
The prompts are roughly divided into four categories: 1) prompts for artwork only illustrating scenes from Deathly Hallows; 2) fiction or artwork related to the history and back story; 3) fiction or artwork that takes place during Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows; 4) post-series fiction or artwork.
Obviously, there are some stories that can and should span multiple time periods, so the categories are not absolute.

Rowling would have written if she had the time; all it means is that no matter what your idea is or how much you want to shake things up, the result must fit within the story in the books. More specifically: you can't ignore canon deaths or the epilogue or particular events just because you feel like it. But if you're clever, you can find a way to work with anything.
Below we have compiled a list of over 250 prompts for fiction and artwork. Each person may claim two prompts at a time, and each prompt can be claimed only once. Please leave a comment to this post naming the prompt or prompts you wish to claim. If you finish your assignment(s) before the end of the month, feel free to claim another prompt for another piece of work. If you claim two prompts, you can create two separate works or combine them in one. Likewise, if you have an idea that suits the challenge that is not listed as a prompt, you are more than welcome to submit it.
The challenge is open to everyone. All submissions must be gen; that is, they cannot focus on romantic or sexual relationships. Members may post their submissions at any time according to the posting guidelines. Non-members should post their work in their own journals with the appropriate headers and give us a link either as a comment on this post or via email at omnio_mods @ yahoo.com, and we'll post a link on the community.
Note: We require that summaries and authors notes containing spoilers be placed behind an lj-cut until this Saturday, August 4. After that, we will not require the lj-cuts but we still expect the appropriate spoiler warnings to be included in the headers.
The challenge will run until August 31. On September 1, we will post a master list of all submissions. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Beware: The prompts list below contains many, many spoilers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
