may challenge: wizard of the month

May 02, 2007 10:30

Welcome to omniocular's May Wizard of the Month Challenge! Many thanks to a_t_rain for the idea for this one.

For our inspiration this month we turn to the Wizard of the Month calendar on JKR's official website. Thirty-five wizards have been listed so far (lucky Felix Summerbee was listed twice, which doesn't seem very fair at all), and all we know about each of them are their names, when they lived, and their most famous accomplishments.

This month's challenge is to tell the stories of these witches and wizards through gen fiction and/or artwork. The work doesn't have to be specifically about the Wizard of the Month, but the wizard or witch must be an important part of the story. For example, if you claim serial goblin-killer Yardley Platt, you may write about Platt's crimes directly, or about the goblin private eye who finally caught him, or about Aurors (or would-be criminals, if that's more your style) studying his life many years later, or anything else you might think of regarding the dangerous Mr. Platt.

Be creative! This isn't about creating biographies on these wizards (though those are certainly welcome), just about using these tantalizing tidbits of information to tell stories about the politics, inventions, sports, celebrity, history, and jellyfish-wearing habits of the wizarding world. The only requirements are that the story or artwork focus on the chosen wizard in some way and, like all stories on omniocular, that it not focus on romantic or sexual relationships.

The challenge is open to both members and non-members. To participate, simply claim one of the names listed below, then write a story or create a piece of art featuring that witch or wizard in a prominent role. You may only claim one name at a time, and each name may be claimed twice. Members may post their work at any time according to the posting guidelines; non-members may post the work in their own journal and drop us a link on this post or at omnio_mods @ yahoo.com.
