It was announced today that the Washington Capitals would participate in the Bridgestone Winter Classic against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Heinz Field next year

yea when i saw the announcement i was like easy there all-about-ratings. they like the crosby/ovetchkin thing eh. i wish it was more about the game than the money
i think canada's version of this is the heritage classic right? and didn't we do it first, the big outdoor game? where my dp is from. this year it's the habs at calgary on feb 20. what i wouldn't give to see the habs in an outdoor game here, sweet jesus . . .
I remember a couple of months ago, there were rumors flying around that toyed with the idea of a potential Caps/Habs game at the Olympic Stadium (perhaps to capitalize on/poke fun at the whole Expos/Nationals connection). I'm guessing that fell through because of the split revenue it'd produce. I'd be all for it, especially after what transpired in Round 1.
Anyway, you're right about the outdoor games being held in Canada first. I really hope the Heritage Classic stays a yearly thing like the Winter Classic and that the 2011 game in Calgary isn't Bettman's way of temporarily appeasing the Canadian market. Dude really needs to stop treating Canada like an afterthought. You all deserve outdoor hockey games as much as us (it is your sport after all).
I'm actually amused by that Habs/Flames game next year, namely 'cause I've got cousins in Calgary and they used to live in Montreal. I wonder who they'd route for... :p
did you hear about the movie Bon Cop Bad Cop? it's canadian and its like an action/comedy film, which has major themes which include stereotypes of quebec/ontario relations (through a boring, stickler anglo cop and the badass, undisciplined franco cop, and their case is basically these murders and they are by a killer pissed about the politics of players/teams going to the states and like eric lindros/ refusal to play in quebec etc... bettman is even in it, but named 'buttman' lol
its a really good movie actually! highly recommended
As a matter of fact, I have seen Bon Cop Bad Cop! Fantastic piece of Canadian cinema in my opinion (and definitely one of my top fav films)! Heck, I even have my own copy on DVD, as well as the soundtrack. Good stuff, I love Bouchard!
Extremely useless fact: Buttman and I have the same printer. :p
haha YES it's always like pulling teeth trying to get people to watch that movie if they don't have a vested interest in ontario/quebec relations or enough knowledge of hockey to 'get it.'
Patrick Huard is hilarious (Bouchard) and i also lovvvvve Louis-José Houde (Jeff the medical examiner)
