Time to get back into game idea a day thing (which was a brain storming thing while I was in GD school). For now though it'll be with board games. Behind LJ-cuts. And I do plan on making an actual update about my life sooner or later.
Sounds like a plan to me, we can draw up boards and build pieces. Some friends and I also have a boardgame night on sundays, I'll post info later, open invite!
Players may grow another players tree with their move
I'm assuming you mean "add a branch of my colour to the other player's tree"? Unless the pieces are laid flat (perhaps pointing according to phototropic rules), I'm not sure how I'd later be able to tell which tree the piece belonged to.
I was thinking it could be of either players color, the point of adding onto another players tree being to cast a longer shadow onto another player who is going to win. Though this may be pointless in practice. It might also work to have shadows only cast on trees of the same block height (which would make working together more important I think)

Ah, okay. I hadn't read the shadow rules thoroughly, and thought that maybe trees might bump into each other.
