Some Terran food isn't bad, but what is this strange goo I keep finding in the mess hall? It comes in different colors and has the consistency of gelled rubber, and it seems it doesn't cast a true shadow. And it...wobbles. Terran foods are as mad as some Terrans themselves.

wtf barg wtf, journal post

I am uncertain. I have avoided it, myself. Many of these foods the surface dwellers eat set me ill at ease.

I sympathize. I like some Terran foods, but I don't trust anything that doesn't cast a real shadow.

I enjoyed the smoked salmon that was prepared for the surface dweller celebration. I am from Earth's oceans, myself, so do eat Terran food, though nothing quite like this.

Are you native to Earth? I'm only now realizing how very little I know about the planet.

I am.

How long have your people been on Earth? I knew little of it in my own time, but almost nothing of Earth in this century. I thought only humans lived here prior to their First Contact.

A very long time. I hope the fact that you are unaware of any other species on the planet is not a sign that we are to be wiped out, though with the surface dweller's disregard for the oceans, I can see that it is a very real danger.

Not to my knowledge, no. I come from a planet on the other side of the galaxy--in my time we were outside the Federation your planet belonged to, so we had little knowledge beyond what our spies brought back.

I see. And I find humans have traits that would make them far more interesting to your spies...such as their tendency to use anything they don't see a need for as a dumping ground.

Or test site.

I know they almost destroyed Earth in their third world war, just prior to First Contact with the Vulcans, but beyond that they seem to take care of their planet. That is still a good half-century from now, though.

Perhaps in the future they will, but I am from before any third world war. I survived through their second world war, however.

Their second...was a long time ago, wasn't it? Your kind must live longer than humans. Then again, most species seem to--Terrans have such short lifespans.

Yes, we do. Much longer.
