Prompt Response: Tell us about the ride.

Which one do you want to know about? The 2005 Chevy Impala parked in my garage? The eight stitches a week I averaged on Poseidon? Or my uncanny habit of attempting to coach the Princeton Lady Tigers from the bleachers? It all depends on your meaning of the word "ride."

The last one's probably the most interesting, though.

I've been unable to shake the residual effects of playing Coach Don Haskins in Glory Road. Even though I've gone and played John Dylan in Poseidon, part of my brain is still back on basketball. I was never a big basketball fan growing up. I wasn't even a good player. I played one year in junior high, only because enough people didn't turn out for the team, and I only scored two points all season. It wasn't really my sport at all. I was more of a football kind of guy.

But then they called me up to do this movie, and everything changed. I flew down to El Paso, and I ended up in Don Haskins' truck, talking with him about whatever happened to cross our minds and drinking and just being guys. The man's a hero, but don't tell him that. He's just one of the American cowboys with a heart of gold. I learned a lot from that man, and I'm honored to still count him as a friend of mine. I knew then, that I'd better not fuck this up.

Thankfully, according to the reviews and the opinions of the people that matter, it looks like I didn't.

I should've figured out that when she decided to take up basketball, Brittany was going to ask me for help. Now I haven't coached a day in my life unless you count coaching the other actors on the set. But I learned a lot from Coach Haskins, and I figured I could do my best. Between the two of us we got something right (more her than me) because she made the team. That was when I discovered I have a problem turning the Haskins impersonation off.

She called me a dork when I showed up to the Princeton-Duke opener in a suit. If I'd worn a tie it would've been just like Haskins. And I keep doing it. I have no idea why, but I do the same thing every time. I show up in a suit, I sit directly behind the Princeton bench so close that I can practically be in the huddle, and I spend half the game yelling, whether it's cheering on the team or lambasting the refs. Not coaching is becoming somewhat of a problem. I'm just happy her coach hasn't turned to me and asked me to sit down and shut up.

I have to admit, though -- watching her streak off down the court and knowing exactly what's going on and what they're going to do before they do it? It's a whole hell of a lot of fun. Who knows, maybe I'll get to see through Don Haskins' eyes more than I thought I would.

That's what you call a ride.
