What day? Why,
National Opt-Out Day, of course - the day when, hopefully, people will tell the TSA to cram the pornoscopes and freedom gropes "where the sun don't shine and the moon ain't supposed to"!
And in light of this, I have a few recommendations for you:
First off, the folks at
We Won't Fly and Reddit suggest that, if you see someone opt out of the pornoscope screening,
you clap, cheer, whistle, and otherwise provide support for their choice. Remember, the TSA freedom-gropers are trying to embarrass the people who opt out and get more people to go through the pornoscopes because it's faster - if you encourage people to opt out, that kind of puts a damper on the TSA's plans to force everyone through the pornoscopes.
(The
Operation: Grabass thread on Reddit has more information on this idea, as well as a few other things of interest.)
Secondly, we have an example of just how flawed the TSA's procedures are:
Adam Savage -
yes, THAT Adam Savage - went through a TSA checkpoint earlier this year while traveling. Despite the fact that he went through a body scanner of some kind - it's unclear as to whether it was a standard metal detector or one of the backscatter/millimeter-wave pornoscopes -
both the scanner and the TSA agents apparently missed the two twelve-inch razorblades he was carrying.
Thirdly, if you're traveling by air today and you're faced with a TSA encounter,
please tell the folks at The TSA Choice how it went. And finally, for those of you on Foursquare who may be traveling by air today . . . getting your "baggage" handled?
Yeah, there's a badge for that!
