Backdated to the
night C.C. was murdered.
Despite having been in Somarium for quite some time now, he had never been shaken to the core. Several things over the course of the past year had shaken him, yes, but nothing like this. The people he held closest to his heart were always there, had always been there, and there had never been a question as to whether or not they would be there. C.C. was always by his side, quietly offering her support (or disapproval) for everything he involved himself in, whether it be making the decision to take Kallen to the Police Banquet, taking a position in the Chief Prosecutor's office, or involving himself with Muraki. He always had too much on his plate, but he never let it affect him, he always kept his shoulders straight and his head held high, regardless of the circumstances in which he found himself.
This was different.
This wasn't a war, this wasn't relinquishing his title, this wasn't a petty squabble between the members of the Black Knights or Student council... This was his rock and she was, most likely, the latest victim in the string of gruesome murders plaguing Somarium. This string of murders, until now, hadn't bothered Lelouch. As frantic as everybody seemed to be over this, Lelouch wouldn't allow himself be affected by any of it. He had seen everything there was to see, he thought. He had seen the most horrifying deaths, bloody and violent, during war and his experiences at the Sword of Akasha were enough to last a lifetime.
There was little that could impress him and nothing that could catch him off guard.
But, this was different.
The sight of C.C.'s lifeless body laying in the street brought him to his knees as he stared with mouth agape, eyes unable to tear themselves away from the horrific sight. He'd seen her with open wounds, bloody and beaten, but never like this. Her entire body was bloody - part of it severely burned, her midsection almost laying on the street next to her. She can heal herself, though. She's always healed herself, suffered death more than anybody ever should. He had no idea how long she had been laying there (blood was starting to dry on her exposed skin and on the pavement around her), or how long she suffered, but he knew he had to do something. Anything. Without hesitation, Lelouch knelt by her side, unable to avoid the pool of blood and pushed the soaked hair out of her face. Her eyes were partially closed, but it was clear that she was not responsive.
"C.C...." he choked, struggling to hold back his tears. "C.C., please respond. I know you can heal yourself, I've seen you do it before, more times than I can count... So, why aren't you? Why aren't you healing yourself? Why are you still..." Tears started to roll down his face, his voice grew soft, "still dead...?"
The broken young man couldn't take his eyes off of his bloodied and disemboweled accomplice, horrified at the sight that lay before his eyes, at the entire situation he has not found himself in. Pleading with her, with whoever was in control of this world, with somebody seemed to be the only answer at the moment, "No, no, no, no. This can't be happening. This can't happen, you're immortal. You can't do this, you can't leave me! You have to heal yourself, damn it. You can't do this to me!"
Nearly blinded by the tears he was attempting to hold back (and not wanting to talk to anybody at the moment), he sent a short text to both
Naomi Javert and the
Chief Prosecutor, asking them to report to his estate in Espoir immediately.
Without hesitation, he tossed his jacket over her and scooped the lifeless body into his arms. He struggled briefly, trying not to lose his grip on her. Blood soaked into his clothes, coated his hands, and dripped all over the street as he walked, leaving a trail through Somni. Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine he'd be carrying a limp, lifeless C.C. through the streets of Somarium, tears rolling down his cheeks, praying to whatever Gods exist in this world that, somehow, she could be saved.
He had to get back to their estate as quick as humanly possible. This had to be taken care of. Something, anything, had to be done.
