[mod post] Editing Challenges Poll!
Hey folks, look it's another poll!
Sorry to be spamming you all with polls today, but as your mod, I really would like your feedback.
Based on early responses to our weekly check-in poll, there seems to be a lot of interest on editing challenges. We've run some editing challenges in the past with mixed success and we'd like to make the challenges better.
Why mixed success, you ask? Well, because editing is such an amorphous and varied thing, especially at this stage in the game. Some folks already have betas, some don't. Some writers have already gotten their first round of beta edits incorporated, others still need to edit the fic before sending it to a beta, still others are working with their betas section by section. Some folks have chapters, some have scenes, others parts. Some stories are 20k others are 100k or longer. Some of us just need a basic spelling and grammar check, some are actually trying to edit out unnecessary scenes to tighten up the writing, while others are still writing--filling in plot holes, adding in subplots that didn't make the first draft, or rewriting that ending/prologue/sex scene/action sequence that we just *hated* in the first draft.
Running an editing challenge that works for everyone (or even most of us) is *hard*. And we want your feedback to make the best editing challenge(s) helpful to you.
