Home Run Derby!
I mean, nothing's gonna top those 28 Josh Hamilton hit in 2008, but tonight's was fun. Obviously, I was pulling for the NL and either of the Red Sox. Watching the kids in the outfield was horrid, though, but there was one kid who was out there running balls down and making a catch or two. But then, this:
Holy shit. And that was pretty much the best part of the Derby (Gonzalez and Cano each hitting 20 over the first two rounds? Nah.) until later on when this happened:
It's a little hard to see, but he caught the ball, fell in the pool, and still managed to save the beer.
So Gonzalez and Cano in the final round, of course, and Adrian took his turn first. He managed to hit eleven home runs, tying the record for dingers in the final round. Robbie went up there and... damn. He broke the record. Is this the second time this week I have to tip my hat to a Yankee? I guess I can let him slide because his uniform number is pretty damn cool.... Even still, he had four outs to go. I would have liked to see him keep hitting home runs and absolutely smash it. Four more -- which was entirely possible -- and he could have the second-highest total in the Derby all to himself. Eleven more -- difficult, but not impossible -- and he would have had the highest.
WTF MLB, I thought you said chicks dig the longball (Greggie, I know you were a Brave, but god damn if your glasses weren't adorable).
Also. Oh, you, Chris Berman.
Celebrity softball on the other hand? Okay, I've watched a third of an inning and I wanna puke. The Victoria's Secret model batting after Rickey (who hit a home run :D) has no business anywhere near this sacred game. She put the ball in play and looked like she didn't even know she was supposed to run to first. Not to mention Jennie Finch has a mic on and I have to hear her inane commentary. 9_9 Is this why there's no WMLB? I'd buy that as being the reason, my god.
