The Unexpected, Chapter 3

Jun 02, 2011 19:59

Tommy had never been more relieved than when he got into the safety of his comfy beach home. He slammed the door shut and stood against the door, breathing heavily. He tried to control his breathing, but he couldn’t get those images out of his head. Bryce and his wet, shirtless body demanded Tommy’s utmost attention, despite what Tommy told himself.

I’m not gay. I’m not gay, Tommy told himself repeatedly. No matter how much he repeated it, though, he couldn’t help but want to find Bryce again, just to see what happened. He couldn’t forget the way the young man kissed him and held him close. That feeling of another body pressed against him was something he desired with all his heart, and nothing he told himself made those thoughts disappear. After taking a “hands-on” approach to get rid of his discomfort, he decided to clear his head by taking a nap.

In the meantime, Adam was still on tour, but his performances were suffering. The fans were baffled by Tommy’s disappearance, but Adam never commented on why he had left. The pain on Adam’s face while he sang “Sleepwalker” was obviously more than a performance and this left the faithful following of Glamberts confused and upset. It was apparent that Adam was hurting, but he denied that anything was wrong.

Adam spent every night wondering what Tommy was doing, how Tommy was, and if Tommy had met anybody, wherever he was. Nobody in the band knew where he was, and all Tommy’s family knew was that he was going to be away for a while. This frustrated Adam beyond belief.

What could possibly be so damn bad that he has to hide from us? Adam thought every single night before falling asleep, where he dreamt of Tommy and his beautiful smile. Adam was definitely in love with his former bassist; that much he knew. He knew that Tommy was straight, but that didn’t stop those feelings from making an appearance in his heart, and he was agonized by the fact that Tommy didn’t want anything to do with him.

Adam was stressed and it showed in his shows: his singing was less than adequate, his dancing was lacking, and he didn’t seem excited to be onstage. The band knew that he was upset about Tommy’s sudden departure, and they came to the conclusion that he needed to take a vacation.

They bought him a round-trip ticket to Hawaii, where he could relax on the beach and clear his head. There was a two-week break in the tour that was absolutely perfect for a vacation; Adam could swim and frolick on the shore without worrying about the tour for a while.

When Monte handed him the plane ticket, Adam beamed with excitement. “This is just what I need, you guys. Thanks!” Adam boarded a plane the next day and set off for what he hoped would be a relaxing two weeks. What could possibly happen in Hawaii? he thought.
