Something quite interesting
So my mom was going through something and found an old box of my random stuff. In it was my Atlanta Beat pennant and my "Soccer...Kickin' It!" pennant with all the MLS teams from like 2000 on it. I'm so glad I found those- they will be hanging up in my dorm with my scarves in less than 2 weeks' time. Also in the box was a huge Barbie pencil case filled with sports cards (not baseball ones because those were all in a binder) and in it I found:
-several WNT player cards from SI for Kids back in the day
-my team set of Atlanta Beat trading cards
AND THE MOST EXCITING THING EVER: 12 MLS UPPER DECK CARDS FROM 2000!!!
They were all award-winners, so I'm thinking it was maybe part of some giveaway by the Y (the same year as the pennant, probably) BUT OMG THEY ARE SO COOL LIKE I KNOW WHO 10 OF THEM ARE BECAUSE THEY'RE STILL AROUND AFJDSLFJSLKJ!!!
-Alexi Lalas (KC): 1999 Commissioner's Award (picture complete with crazy Wizards kit, beard, and hair AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA)
-Jaime Moreno (DC): MLS Cup 1997 MVP (he still looks old there- he was only 26!)
-Robin Fraser (LA): 1999 BIC Defender of the Year (I honestly have no idea who he is but since he'd be 42 now I'm assuming he's retired)
-Kevin Hartman (LA): 1999 Pepsi Goalkeeper of the Year (his hair still looks the same hahah)
-Sigi Schmid (LA): 1999 All Sport Coach of the Year (ahahahaha he looks a little thinner but other than that exactly the same)
-Ronald Cerritos (SJ): 1999 Nickelodeon GAS Play of the Year (the play was a bicycle-kick goal. He sounds familiar...would only be 33 now. Is he still around?)
-Jay Heaps (Miami): 1999 Rookie of the Year (I didn't know he was that old!)
-Steve Ralston (Tampa Bay): 1999 Snickers Fair Play Award (seriously who else would win that? And lol I have his last-season card and he's making the same face, lol)
-Marco Etcheverry (DC): 1999 Mastercard Goal of the Year (goal from midfield)
-Ben Olsen (DC): MLS Cup 1999 MVP (OMG NO BEARD!!! When I told my mom I had a Ben Olsen card she was like, "No wayyyy!" and then she freaked out when I showed her because obviously she's seen the commercial 83942308409238 times)
-Jason Kreis (Dallas): 1999 Honda MVP and MLS Scoring Champion (he has a long chin)
-Peter Nowak (Chicago): MLS Cup 1998 MVP (HASDHFKSAFKDSJFHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAA. AHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA LOLOLOLOLOLOL)
I should probably scan these. I will if I have time this week. Like, this seriously made my day.
