Still a free agent as the European transfer window closed for summer, U.S. National Team defender Jay DeMerit says he is taking all necessary time to make sure he wisely chooses his next employer.
The market closing limits his options as some leagues, such as the Bundesliga, do not allow free transfer registrations after the deadline.
DeMerit, who handed in the Watford armband when his contract expired in June, may still sign with interested parties in places like England and Major League Soccer.
"It is not that there has not been any interest, but nothing has really bitten me," DeMerit told the BBC. "I am not suggesting that I am going to get a move to Chelsea or anything like that, but I am hoping there are teams in England or around Europe that can test me at the highest level."
"I like to think that I have got a lot to offer," he added. "That was the original thinking, but things haven't really gone to plan."
DeMerit has been linked with the likes of Premier League risers Blackpool and West Bromwich Albion in the UK press this summer, while his agent has revealed some interest on the continent.
