Claudio Reyna did, as expected,
announce his retirement at the press conference today.
Here's a nice tribute article about him.
With his son Jack.
Superliga continues tonight:
Pachuca @ Revs, 8 PM EST
Santos @ Chivas USA, 10 PM EST
There were games last night, too...and it didn't go so well for the MLS teams. DC United lost 3-1 to Atalante, with Emilio scoring for DC, and Houston lost 1-0 to Chivas after a hard-fought game.
Landon Donovan had a phone-in interview with Sky Sports News this afternoon- I don't know if anyone else caught it, but they asked him some questions about David Beckham, about the Galaxy, about getting his 100 caps, about possibly coming to England (he said he'd like to someday, but "nobody's exactly knocking on my door at the moment", but he thinks it'd be fun), about the All-Star game, about who he supports (he said he doesn't really support anyone- if someone signs him, he'll support them, lol), and about Brad Guzan ("We don't really know much about him over here, what should Villa supporters be expecting?" and Landon talked about how big Brad is and stuff). I was surprised they talked to him for so long.
The ESPY awards are being taped tonight. Landon has won best MLS player the past two years (the only years it has been in existence) and has won other soccer-related awards in the past. (Curiously, there weren't any soccer-specific awards until 2000.) Landon is nominated again this year, and is up against Beckham, Blanco, Emilio, and Reis. They'll air "live" on ESPN this Sunday at 9 PM EST. (Beckham is also presenting an award.) (They asked Landon about this, and he forgot that Blanco was nominated.)
Boca is back in training with Rennes. Apparently yesterday was his first day. And he got a haircut. Rennes are preparing for an Intertoto Cup match against some random Ukranian team on Saturday.
The WNT play Brazil tonight in San Diego in the last game of their send-off series. The US beat Brazil on Sunday 1-0 on an Amy Rodriguez goal. The game will be live on FSC at 10 PM EST.
