Day 99, Noon

Feb 14, 2013 00:59

Right from when Yuuri woke up, he had a bad feeling about the day. Not from some ability to sense the future, but rather a physical bad feeling. Something unpleasant was going on with his stomach. The same went for his head, but he could blame stress for that one. He'd been in this new world only for a few days, and already someone knew his secret ( Read more... )

Gunter had a rather good night. He got some use out of that dress and slept rather well. But he did need to get up and so something - that didn't involve eating all the cookies he managed to spot in the hallway between where he slept and his own room. He threw on a pair of slacks and didn't quite bother to button his shirt at the moment before loosely pulling up his hair and heading out to at least wander a bit before hitting the baths.

There were far too many cookies and cakes about. He hadn't eaten yet and wanted something a bit more substantial. He hoped that today wasn't going to be a sweets only type of day.

Though, there was something sweet in the hall that had nothing to do with baked goods and that was something sweet he did like to indulge in. She didn't look very happy as he caught up to her. But it was a Yuuri, and now his interest in trying to capture her attention was a little more than usual. "A beautiful girl as yourself shouldn't make such an expression. Are you unwell?"

Yuuri drew back a little as he saw the unfamiliar man. Was everyone in this world so beautiful, or did he just have bad luck? (Was only partially dressing their custom, too?) He felt severely uncomfortable standing next to someone like this. He moved his hand to grip his other elbow defensively.

"Um," he started, staring intently at the ground, "I- I'm okay. It's nothing to trouble yourself over, Sir...?" If Mazoku ruled in this world, he definitely couldn't afford to be rude. He was probably speaking to more royalty. Otherwise he might have just fled at the compliment, which was really undue, especially from someone like this.

"Nonsense. I can't ignore such a face." Which was true, it wasn't anything he'd allow himself to pass by. An innocent type AND looked like the one he lusted after so many many many years ago? It was like someone was offering him a delightful gift.

"And there isn't any need for formalities. Gunter will suffice. I can safely assume that you do not belong to this place either? I can show you to the infirmary if you aren't feeling well or provide company if you would prefer." He would have reached out to lightly touch her arm, but she was so closed in and defensive - she was going to be a nice challenge.

Was there something about his face? It seemed pretty average for him. He bit his lip and stayed quiet about that, though. Ignoring any flattery until it stopped would probably work well enough. He didn't really know a good way to deal with it, and he could hardly think straight like this.

"A- alright, Gunter, then..." Oh, so he wasn't from this world, either. He hesitantly glanced back up at him. "I'm not from here, no... Um, I'll be okay." Maybe not so okay, but he didn't want to go to the infirmary if at all possible. "I was just hoping to get something to eat, to settle my stomach."

Why were women always so stubborn when it came to not feeling well? Though, he was much the same way, but he was a man, he was supposed to.

"Then at least let me escort you to the dining room. I've yet to eat myself and would be honored to join you, but if you wish to eat alone, I'll respect your decision." He smiled and held out a hand in case she chose to take it. He'd not be offended if she chose not to.

At least this guy seemed to have impeccable manners, something he didn't think applied to anyone he'd met so far in this world. That was rather a nice relief, and he felt a little more relaxed. As a matter of fact, eating would probably be easier with someone with him--better than sitting alone and feeling like everyone in the room was looking at him. They'd definitely be better off looking at Gunter, if he were sitting with him.

"Alright," he nodded, and took his offered hand with only a little show of reluctance. People who flirted were dangerous, but taking someone's hand was ordinary enough. "Thank you..." he mumbled, trying at least to return the favor of politeness.

There was something about this Yuuri that was familiar, but he couldn't place it. It wasn't just that he was a Yuuri, but something else. Something that seemed rather important on some level. He'd encountered so many people in his many years of living, it really could have been anyone.

He held her hand gently and walked with her to the dining room. He didn't want to push her hard, since it was obvious she wasn't feeling too well and seemed rather shy to boot. "If it is any comfort to you, I don't intend on prying into your past. For some people, it can bring up feelings of bitterness. Instead, you may share whatever things you wish, even if it is some of those things. And I don't make it a point to spread unnecessary rumors, either." But if anyone happened to see something themselves, that wasn't his fault (like having a bit of fun on a balcony).

(ooc: yes, dangerous. very much so. >:D)

This was much better than getting tugged around. If only his stomach would settle down already. What Gunter said was only somewhat comforting, though. Definitely, it was a relief that he wouldn't be nosy like this world's Shouri had been. But, what kind of rumors was he talking about? Hopefully none of those were going around about him already.

"Ah, thank you," he nodded thoughtfully before averting his eyes again. It was a lot easier to look at the floor than at Gunter. "Everyone else seemed very curious about my world, but I..." Well, he didn't like talking about anything in particular, but explaining his world was especially low on his list currently. "It's hard to explain. So I appreciate it."

Gunter chuckled. "There are a lot of nosy people around here. Many of them like to gossip about nothing and everything. Most of it is pure conjecture to amuse themselves, but sometimes it turns out to be true. They are eternally interested in things pertaining to romance. Be cautious what you say to the maid staff."

"I understand completely. To be honest, this probably was once my world, but there were situations and I no longer belonged. You just need to carve your own pathway sometimes." He smiled at her, though with her downward gaze, he doubted she saw it. But at least they were just about to the dining room.

Now that bit of info made Yuuri feel quite uneasy. He bit his lip nervously. "I will," he mumbled. Hopefully he'd be able to get away with saying next to nothing at all. "I hope not to give them much to gossip about, then..."

He tilted his head in consideration of this business about Gunter's world. It didn't make much sense to him, but he thought he got the idea of it. "I don't know how any of these worlds work," he sighed. "But that's... a good philosophy." Not really one he lived by, but he wasn't going to argue about it. Especially not with the smell from the kitchens nearby making his stomach turn all over again. Maybe this hadn't been such a good idea after all...

"Not giving them anything will make them gossip as well." He sighed. "Sometimes it's best to just feed them something obvious that they might already know. Or even a tidbit you don't mind getting around ( ... )

Yuuri felt a wave of nausea at the smell in the dining room. He grimaced, but managed to otherwise keep his discomfort to himself. He was deeply grateful for Gunter taking control of the situation, and he sat quietly, turning his hands over anxiously in his lap. "So no one knows why," he sighed. "I don't know if this place is better or worse than mine yet..."

Listening to Gunter was oddly almost comforting. People who would do the talking for him were the easiest to be around. Until he got to the part about the other Gunter, that is. "Well, I... I'm glad you were able to change." He shivered a little. "C- careful? I'll try..." Hopefully he wouldn't have to, though. Just how many people around here had a fixation on the other Yuuri? It was sure causing him trouble. "The other Yuuri seems to be quite popular," he mumbled, with just the slightest pout.

"He's the king. He's also from another world but his soul is from this one. He's also quite exotic. Those with black hair and eyes are said to have tremendous power. They're revered by mazoku and feared by humans. But his personality isn't quite as everyone expected, so that also seems to draw others to him. He has a kind soul." He rested his chin on his elbow and looked over the other Yuuri a bit. He still had that nagging feeling. "But I'm sure he's overwhelmed by his popularity at times. And I have a feeling you'd easily capture hearts as well."

The maid maid brought out the tea and crackers for Yuuri and a pastry of some sort for Gunter. She assured him that the contents were not sweet and that it was just a thin outside layer that had the cinnamon and sugar on it. She also gave them a curious look, which Gunter simply shook his head at her before she pouted and stepped away. "Did you have anything you wanted to ask me? I'm quite versed on this country, despite it not quite being my home."

He actually appreciated learning something more about the other him, although the thought of it did still unnerve him. The part about his soul was a bit lost on him, however, although he had a provisional understanding of this other world called Earth the other Yuuri was born on. "He did seem... nice." Actually, he seemed like a fool, but he didn't need to say that. He stiffened up at the last bit. "I don't think so," he practically whispered. He wanted to simply pretend not to notice he was being looked at, too.

Avoiding looking at the maid the whole time she was there, Yuuri took up his tea hesitantly. The smell was nice and comforting, at least. He eyed the crackers warily for now. "Oh, well," he thought about it, swirling the tea in his cup idly, There were countless unanswered questions about this place in his mind, but one was at the front at the moment. "Are... are there usually... so many sweets everywhere?"

Gunter put a spork through his and was pleased to find it filled with egg and chicken and nuts. Not at all what he expected. The girls were really outdoing themselves lately. "This is unusual. There are usually sweets available, but not on every flat surface through the castle. But, while we're discussing the unusual, you might find occasions that seem far from normal and almost bizarre. Just as we don't know how we got here, we don't know how these happen."

Yuuri let out a long breath, both out of relief and with the intent to cool off his tea. "Oh, thank goodness..." If it was always like that, he might have considered leaving a bit more seriously. Just looking at decadent food made his stomach feel funny--although maybe that was just today.

"Bizarre?" He shot a quizzical look at Gunter while taking a sip of tea. "Like... like what kind of things?"
