Day 94, Late Evening

Sep 18, 2012 12:40

Gisela was finally free of the infirmary. Most of the patients who had suffered Julia's attack had gone home to the their families. Those who hadn't were being looked after by nurses, but would be just fine given rest and time. She, was just plain tired. Julia's maryoku was draining, and made her feel wretched, and all she really wanted a bath and ( Read more... )

"Can we sit here for a bit?" It was quiet and if he didn't have to run around, that would be better for him. He needed something solid, but probably a lot water too. He walked over to the sink and grabbed a pitcher and filled it with water, but leaned on the edge of the sink for a moment. He hoped Gisela was paying more attention to something else to see him having to rest that way.

“Alright. If you feel up to it.” Gisela had gone to poke around the pantry. She found the bread, which hadn’t gone stale yet, and brought that to the table. There was also some of the soup. She didn’t want Bert eating anything too heavy. Bananas would be good too.

"It'll be easier than carrying everything back. 'sides, it's empty in here." Bert heard Gisela moving around and took a deep breath to keep himself in check. He picked up a few glasses and carefully made his way to the table with the pitcher. He wanted to help her more but ended up having to sit and just settle for watching her bring things in. He felt bad about it, but felt bad in general.

“You have a point.” She gathered up the needed the dishes, and began to serve up the food. She spooned some soup into a bowl and set it in front of Bert. “I hope this does the trick. If you’re feeling better tomorrow, maybe we can do something fun.”

Soup. Gisela seemed rather fond of feeding him soup. He wasn't against soup and liked heartier types - more like stews. But they really only had left overs and what they could find, so he couldn't completely complain.

"That'd be great. After a day like today, you could use a day off, too." He dipped his bread in the soup and started to actually eat. It felt good to have food.

Gisela dug into her soup, but picked at the bread. Chewing, it turned out, took a little more effort than she was willing to expend.

“There are a few people I want to check on,” she admitted. “But I don’t think I will be returning to the infirmary to work tomorrow.”

Bert sniffled, but luckily it seems like he stopped sneezing for the moment. He felt good that she was going to take a day off and wondered what kind of fun things they could do. If he was just a little sniffly, he'd be fine. He hoped this recent dizzy spell was from lack of food and not actually something else. He didn't feel hot anymore either, so things were promising.

"That's cool. So what kinds of fun things didja have in mind?" He was about to start on his third glass of water.

Gisela leaned on her hand and chewed on a bit of bread, thinking for a moment. The lake could be fun, but he probably didn’t want to be around any more water. “We could go to a bazaar? Or ma festival?”

Those sounded like a nice departure from the castle. He wasn't quite familiar with a bazaar aside from the ones in college. And those were just to get people to join clubs. "The bazaar sounds neat. I'll have to make sure I'm full of energy tomorrow then." He switched from his water to his soup. "What kinds of stuff are at the bazaar anyway?"

“Oh, just about everything you can think of.” She set half the roll aside and went back to the soup. It was easier to chew. After a small yawn, “Merchants and craftsmen from all over the kingdom - sometimes other countries and other parts of the world - come to sell their wares.”

"Sounds fun." He wondered if he'd see anything that reminded him of home.

He did notice Gisela looking a bit sleepy and since he was about done, figured maybe she'd want to get back to sleep. "You seem tired, babe. We can go back if you want to." He was feeling less dizzy now, too.

She was tired, but she lifted a shoulder in feeble protest. “Only if you’re done. You don’t have to stop on my account. I’ll be fine.”

His soup was done and he was pretty much out of water too. There was a little bread, but bread traveled. "I'm good to go, but you don't eat a lot, so when you're finished. You did lots of work today, so you need to refill your tank." and he was getting soft and needed a good workout.

She ate a few more bite of soup, then pushed the bowl away. “I wasn’t all that hungry to begin with. I’ll make up for it with a big breakfast.” She stood up. “Come on. We’ll let someone else take of the mess.”

"I love that about this place. There's always someone to clean up after you." Bert stood as well, but grabbed whatever bread was left. With the free arm, he put it around Gisela to walk back down the hall with her. He was a little worried about how little she ate all the time. He wondered what other kinds of earth food she'd like besides Coke.

He was just hopeful he'd feel good enough for a good morning work out. He felt like he really needed it.

“I try not to make a habit of it. We should not forget how to be self-reliant.” She leaned against him as they walked. It really had been too long a day. She hoped there would be no more emergencies for a while. She wasn’t sure she or her staff could handle any for at least a few days.

She was going to sleep in tomorrow. As long as she possibly could.
