Day 93 - Mid-Morning (Matin et Demi)

Aug 03, 2012 16:44

Gise woke up early and had already gotten dressed.  She already put away all the clothes and shoes that she picked out in town yesterday.  She was wearing a white sundress with lace frills and had tied her hair into pigtails with blue satin ribbons.  She was dancing around her room, barefoot, with a smoldering smudge stick in the air.  Fortunately ( Read more... )

Gunter usually left his village conquests early in the morning to avoid including them in an unnecessary scandal. The rain was excessive and the thunder and lightning was scaring his horse. He had little choice but to walk back to the castle. He did manage to stable the horse and collect his belongings - which he held over his head for a time in order to stay somewhat dry.

Though the storm wasn't his only problem. Something felt incredibly off, and the instant he attempted any sort of wind barrier to deflect the rain he knew what it was. He'd been stripped of his maryoku and it was a rather unusual sensation. One he hoped wouldn't last very long. It was almost like a part of him was removed - somehow.

He made his journey from the village up the steep hills to the castle and felt exhausted and the ultimate desire for a bath. He was crossing a courtyard when he caught a slightly familiar odor and saw the trace of smoke coming from what looked like Gisela's room. He never knew her to have anything like that in her own room, but if he remembered what Gise picked up yesterday, then it made a lot of sense.

He took a gamble and called to the window. "Gise? Is that you in there?"

Gise heard a voice coming from outside and without missing a beat she deftly placed the smudge stick in the abalone shell she had gotten yesterday and bounced to the window. She looked out the window and down into the courtyard while bouncing on the balls of her feet. She immediately recognized her friend from yesterday, the man that looked like her father.

"Allo Gunter, is not the weather wonderful! J'aime la pluie! But you should come up here before you get ill." She shouted down to Gunter with a gleeful smile on her face.

Even though his powers failed him, his wits were still sharp. That was a relief.

"I'd prefer it to be a little less wet," and he could do without the thunder and lightning too, "but I was most certainly heading inside. I'm certain there is a rather warm bath and hopefully some breakfast awaiting my arrival." Well, at least, the maids would make him something if he asked.

"Would you like me to join you? Or would you prefer to flirt with the maids while I finish smudging my room? Whichever you prefer. If you want just come up and get me, I should not be much longer."

Gise then bounced back to her smudge stick and doused it in the shell. She then lit the sweetgrass braid and blew on it to smolder it. Then she proceeded to do the same with the braid as she was doing with the smudge stick. After she had finished with that she doused that as well in the shell. She then got out the oil burner, lit the candle in the bottom and placed a few drops of fennel oil in the dish. She wafted the vapors over to her face to make sure it wasn't too strong and then pounced on her bed swinging her legs back and forth as she waited for Gunter to come up.

Gunter dropped his stuff in the room, curious as to why several things looked like they'd been singed - and soaked. He didn't notice any particular leak in the roof. He found a dry towel and dried his hair a bit, changing clothes into something much less wet. He could take a bath after he ate.

The smell from Gisela's room was filling the halls, and it was far better than any of the halls usually smelled like. He might like having her around a bit.

He knocked on her door and ran his fingers through his hair to detangle it a little while he waited for her. "There's no reason I can't enjoy a meal with a pretend daughter and flirt with maids at the same time." He flashed a smile that was devious, yet gentle once she opened the door

Gise opened the door gleefully. "Allo Faux Père! Entré, s'il vous plaît. I have a wide-toothed comb you can use to detangle your hair in here." She moved out of the doorway to allow Gunter passage inside her chamber.

She bounced over to her vanity and grabbed the comb for Gunter and lifted it up to show him, then placed it back down on the vanity. "My feet hurt." She stopped bouncing. "I just need to put something on my feet, they are getting cold and hurting."

Gunter followed her in, fully able to smell the things she was burning recently. The room was undeniably Gisela's, and far cleaner than the one he shared with Josak. He moved to pick up the comb and kept his eyes on the girl. So this is how Gisela would have looked if she was a little less rigid and more relaxed.

"There's no rush. The stone floors often can make ones feet a bit sore, especially if you're not used to them. I miss some of the plush flooring that was in my time. Though, here it seems that it's not common to roam about without shoes on. I suspect that's the stone." he pushed the comb through his hair with relative ease. Even tangles rarely stuck around and it wasn't difficult for it to return to it's lush appearance.

Gise walked over to her wardrobe and found a nice pair of matching shoes, they were a royal blue velvet with a small half-inch heel. "I want to find a job so that I can buy more things for my chamber. I want to buy a nice, locally made carpet to place in here. A wool one would be nice. Have you seen any carpet-weavers in town? I hope these shoes work with this outfit. Do you like?" She twirled around showing off her white lace dress with the blue shoes and her pigtails neatly tied with blue ribbons.

Gunter thought for a moment and set the comb back down. "I believe there is a royal weaver for upholstery, carpets, and draperies, however, It might be prudent to discuss that with Gisela, at least to decide on something appropriate in the event you are returned to your home."

He looked her over and smiled. "It's becoming. Now, shall we get some breakfast?" Or lunch, as the day was seemingly speeding past him.

"Absolument! Nous allons! I am getting hungry anyway. How do we get there?" She replied with a smile.

He took that as a statement of agreement. "Follow me. I'll show you to the dining hall. It's probably between the larger crowds, so it should be rather quiet. It's not very far."

He held the door open for her and led her through the halls toward the dining room. As he expected, there wasn't anyone there actually eating but a maid did come out to greet them as they sat down.

Gise looked bemused, sitting, grinning, and kicking her legs back and forth. "What is the food really like here? I liked the stew in town but what the food appears to be is not what it tastes like. I had some of what looked like dried apricots and they were somewhat salty, not like on Earth. Things just seem a bit topsy-turvy." She said to Gunter.

"It's not quite simple to describe. It has been far too long since I've had food from earth, that I'm not quite prepared to compare the two. Though, from some of the chatter, it appears that some fruits are similar, they just are different in color."

Though he hadn't been in an official role in centuries, he still set his napkin on his lap and kept himself upright in a proper manner. He was still working on breaking this habit. He didn't have a problem in bars, but in the castle was a different story. He was sometimes disappointed in having to remind himself to slouch.
