Something was wrong. He was aware of this before he opened his eyes, before he was fully awake. Light was the first thing that registered. His cell-room was dark - always pitch black except for a line of light under the door - until he lit the lamp on the desk. But he could see light, even through his closed lids. The air was cool, not stale, and made his bare legs break out in goosebumps. There were noises - rustling leaves, birds singing. And a strange weight on him he couldn’t place, a warmth beside him.
Cautiously, he opened his eyes, and found the weight and warmth came from a woman laying beside him. Her arms were around him, and he felt confused, and trapped. One of his arms was draped over her, as well. The name Gise flitted by, and he knew that must be her name. He pulled his arm away and chanced a look around, because it was apparent they were not in his cell. Where am I?
Outside. They were outside. There were trees towering over them, and they were laying on the ground, just off the side of the road. But how…? We walked here. Going to the temple. But that had been a dream. Right? He was wearing the same shirt. It didn’t cover quite as much, though it still hung halfway to his knees. It was all he had to wear.
He sat up abruptly, panic taking over. He wasn’t supposed to be here. He was going to get in trouble. They were going to think he did this deliberately, and he wouldn’t know how to explain.
