Day 89: Morning. Ken's cell.

Mar 25, 2012 18:59

Wolf had spent another restless night. He was starting to feel better and more himself and he could feel his maryoku returning. It was still a bit weak, but with more rest he was sure it would get stronger in another day or so. He had been somewhat annoyed when he went to see Ken and was told Ken was sleeping. They needed to do better with giving ( Read more... )

Ken was awake. Had been awake for a while. He'd slept well, and all the way through the night. The three bottles Gunter had left behind - the oil and two sleep aids - he hid under his bed, in the farthest corner, so they could not be seen unless one were to get on the floor and peek under. It was a wonder what one night of good sleep could do. His mind was a bit sharper, more clear. Things in the Sage's writings he didn't quite grasp before were starting to make sense. And he felt... better.

For once, he was finishing his breakfast (and actually awake to recieve it) when he heard the knock at the door. "I'm awake," he called back. "Come in." He went back to reading, hoping to finish the page he was on at least.

Wolf came in looking refreshed and cheerful, “Good Morning.” He responded. He had a small basket under his arm. He had no reason to think it was anything but, so he was simply glad to be feeling better himself.

“Would you like to stretch your legs a little?” He inquired. The bandage was gone from his jaw but the small scar was there. It would heal quickly though and fade just as quickly.

Though Ken's mood was improved, it was a far cry from cheerful. He sighed as he reached the end of his page. "Are you going to be like this the whole time?"

He put a marker in the book before closing the cover and pushing it across the desk. He turned to Wolf and crossed his arms, noting the basket curiously. It seemed the other was incapable of visiting without bringing something with him. "If it doesn't get me killed." He nodded to the basket. "What's that?"

"If you come with me, you'll find out." Wolf smirked, refusing to answer. He leaned in the doorway, which was partially open. "No one will see you. Its a controlled area. Or shall I leave you to your own mind today?"

He did look pretty absurdly cheerful and offered another bribe.. "If you do come, I'll bring you another bath later." The words were innocent, of course, since Wolf had no idea what had gone on in Murata's cell.

He flipped his hair back and offered his best annoyingly confident look.

Ken glowered a bit (though it looked more like pouting). He wasn't too fond of wait and see. He glanced at the book he'd been reading (the last of the three he had, and he was almost finished), then stood. "I'll come."

Another bath was both appealing a dreadful. No doubt, the conditions were the same, but he did like being clean. And after yesterday, he felt he needed it a little more than usual...

He scratched a hand through his hair, suddenly uncomfortable, as he approached. "Um, will there be guards?"

"Yes. It was the only way I could get approval." Wolf explained. He looked pleased to see that Ken was reading Geika's work. "I see you're keeping busy, good." He stepped to the side and pulled the door open. Two guards were there. They seemed to have no emotion and were just simply doing their job to the best of their ability.

"Just for a little while, we don't have much time." Wolf gave Ken a smile. "I'll protect you."

He would, of course. No one would do anything to Ken if by chance they were in the hallway. "You do have to wear these though." He held a pair of iron wrist restraints.

He hated guards. He could almost forget they were there, with the solid door between them and him. He tried to ignore them when they brought food or collected dishes. It would be harder to put them out of mind if they were right there with him.

He tried to take comfort in Wolf's assurances. When he said he would protect, Ken hoped that also meant from guards as well (though Gwendal's men were supposed to trustworthy).

When he saw the restraints, he took a step back, his arms crossing protectively. "I won't do anything." Distress was evident in his voice.

Wolf put one of the shackles on his own wrist. "You won't be wearing both." That was kind of a lie, but he felt maybe this would persuade Ken to comply.

This was evident when one of the guards cleared his throat and Wolf just gave him a look.

"You'll just be tied to me, that way if you try to do anything, I can easily stop you. I'm sorry, but there's no other way." He encouraged. "Otherwise, you're stuck in the room."

It was hard enough to be able to get approval for him to walk up and down one small hallway out of the way from the rest of the Castle staff.

Ken saw the brief exchange between Wolf and the guard, and had his suspicions. But Wolf was wearing one half of the restraints. Reluctantly, he held one hand out and shut his eyes. He would agree to this, but he didn’t want to see it go on.

Once it was done, he would let his hand drop as far as Wolf would allow. Having never been outside this room, save when Gwendal led him here, he had no idea what was outside the door. “Are there any other conditions I should be aware of?” he asked. There was a touch of wariness there, and a some bitter.

Wolf looked pleased that Ken did as he was told and he was as gentle as possible. “Don’t worry about anything else.” He said earnestly. “We’re not going outside, up the hallway a ways. Come on, let’s go.” The guards actually stayed a bit behind the pair, giving them some privacy but keeping a watchful eye all the while. One even had a crossbow out and ready. They were not taking any chances. He slipped his fingers into Ken’s and squeezed his hand. “Just think of pleasant things.” He encouraged ( ... )

Pleasant things. Like what? he wanted to ask. But then, he didn't want to be difficult. Not with a guard holding a weapon right behind him. His hand gripped Wolf's without his even thinking about it.

"I am almost done with the ones I have," he said. Which meant yes, he did need more. He reached up with his free hand to rub at his eyes and blinked at the change in light. It was brighter out here than he'd grown used to in his room, which was lit with a solitary lamp. The bluish glow at the end of the hall didn't even seem natural anymore, after four days of yellow torch and candlelight.

He scratched at the corner of his blind eye and looked sideways at Wolf, accusing. "You didn't come yesterday."

Wolf smirked, “I did come to see you. Twice. You were sleeping both times, you must have been tired.” He moved down the hallway. “I’m glad you did get that much sleep, you needed it, and that you’ve read the journals. What did you find out?” From the basket a waft of cinnamon and apples drifted.

He had been happy that Ken got some sleep. He’d gotten his own after that. Later today he’d have to go find Yuuri and see how he was but right now his mind was on the boy at his side. He could almost imagine they were out in the garden and not in a far corner of the castle no one knew much about.

"O-oh..." Ken looked away abruptly, suddenly very fidgety. Color spread over his face, even threatened to reach his ears. He'd fallen asleep almost immediately after Gunter had left.

The journals were a safer topic. Maybe. Though he didn't really know what to say about them. "Um... well. Either we have the same kind of crazy, or I may not be crazy. I guess I have something to think about. I'm not sure what it means for me, though." If he was some kind of "sage", then he was a sage without a king or kingdom, and no handle on his memories or powers.

Though he'd eaten breakfast - bread and milk, but it was something - the smells coming from the basket made his stomach grumble. It felt like ages since he'd eaten anything with flavor.

Wolf grinned faintly when he heard that. “You’re not crazy.” He reassured Ken, and though he was curious what had caused that particular flush he decided not to pursue it. Eventually they came to the small destination. The ledge was big enough for them both to sit on and he opened the window for some fresh air.

The basket was also opened, it was a bit awkward since he only had one hand to use but he managed it. He took out a small bowl which had some fresh apple-cinnamon sticks in them oozing with sweet sauce, a plate with a generous amount of sandwich squares piled up, a container of juice with two mugs and a few finger foods.

“Ta-dah!” Wolf beamed at the small spread, “Consider it a picnic. I made those myself.” He pointed at the cinnamon sticks, this of course guaranteed they were extremely sweet.

Ken rubbed his head wearily. "Still might be a ltitle crazy." Memories or not, there was no way anyone could be completely sane with so much crammed up there. Is that why the other Murata wrote everything down? Did that help?

He looked out the window and squinted at what he could see of the world outside. It was too bright, so he turned his back on it. But he did take a few deep breaths of cool, moving air.

Wolf never ceased to baffle him. He eyed the food as it was laid out, and turned a half smile on the blond. "What made you want to do this?" His mother never let him have sweets before a meal, but he bypassed the sandwiches and reached for the cinnamon sticks first.

Wolf shrugged and offered a playful grin. “I don’t know. I like to bake sometimes and you’re all cooped up in there.” He poured the juice, and the aroma suggested that it was something sweet with apples. “I forgot to ask if you were allergic to anything.” He threw Ken an apologetic look. “I was going to go out by myself.”

He glanced at Ken hesitantly, “Do you mind? I mean, I still feel bad because I wasn’t very nice when you first arrived though I should have paid more attention. “ He sighed as he looked outside, “It’s a nice day. There’s a particular lake that I wanted to go visit. Guess I’ll go later with Yuuri or something. I need to get out of the castle.”

Especially after his emotional breakdown yesterday morning.
