Day 85, Early Morning
The sun was much higher than he liked when Ken slipped away from the wall. He had been out in the garden all night, crouched along the wall in the dark, seeking out the weak spots Julia had told him about, planting the delicate little bombs he had constructed the day before. Julia had been impressed that he knew how to make them; he almost wished he didn’t. A part of him had hoped that materials would have been harder to acquire, and maybe this part of the plan would not have to happen. If anyone was near the wall when it came down… He didn’t care about these people, but he’d never caused deliberate harm before.
He quickly brushed the dirt from his pants and checked the garden for guards or early morning servants and, as casually as he could, made his way for the door. His hands shook, and he worried that anyone who looked at him would know he had done something terrible, so he shoved his hands in his pockets and kept his head down.
