Day 64: Morning in the stables

Sep 20, 2010 12:47

Why does my heart go on beating?
Why do these eyes of mine cry?
Don't they know it's the end of the world?
It ended when you said goodbye.
-The end of the world Skeeter Davis

“Good morning, Ao.” Wolfram picked straw out of his hair as he climbed down from the stable loft where he slept. He yawned and stretched his tired body. Ao was restlessly pawing the stall ground and impatiently waiting for his morning walk. “I’m coming, I’m coming.” He found some water to wash his face with and shivered in the early morning chill. The other horses he could care less about, it was time to begin the days chores. Ao always got first attention and it wasn’t just because he was Yuri’s horse. At least, that’s what Wolf kept telling himself.

He stripped his shirt off and slung it over the side of the barn stall in order to wash up a little. Sometimes, he dreamed about getting a chance to bathe in that wonderful bath in the castle again but that was not to be. Instead, he was slinging cold water over his skin in an effort to at least contain the grime. As the water slipped down his slim form, he wondered what was going on in the castle. No one told him, he wasn’t allowed to talk to anyone. He rested there for a moment and his hands held the basin as he looked at his reflection in the water in disgust. Time was on his side. He knew he’d just have to endure.

Just how long would he be banished here? Would it have been kinder to tell him never to return? He barely managed to suppress the urge to toss the basin against a wall.

Ao neighed at him impatiently, a convenient distraction from his mind.

Wolf picked up his shirt and headed over to the stall. "Alright, Alright." he muttered. He snagged a carrot from a nearby bag and brought the treat with him to tend to Ao's needs.
