Day 5, late morning, Library

Sep 23, 2007 21:54

The room Anissina dropped him off at had an annoying herd of guards lurking outside in the hallway.  The room itself was nicer than anything he'd lived in back in his world.  Mostly because it still had four standing walls ( Read more... )

Gunter tensed as his solitude was disturbed by not one, but two presences, though only one spoke.

'Good morning'Looking up from the blueprints he saw a lovely greenhaired woman.

"Is it still morning? It feels like ages have passed," he says running his palm across his eyes. "I wish this place had better lighting," he complained.

"There are extra candles on the shelf close to the door if you need more light." Gisela put on her best smile. "It seems Anissina has already welcomed you to Shin Makoku. I hope you're settling in well?"

"Ah, by the door." He closes the blueprints up - he's memorized most of the castle by now. Next he would focus on the local geography. "Pardon me for a moment."

Gunter goes to the mentioned shelf and took a pair of long candles while sticking a third into his jacket - might come in handy later.

Gunter saw the mystery whistler by some other shelves. "Nice tune," he says walking past and back to his table.

He gestured towards the other side of the table with a bright smile directed to the lovely.

"Feel free to join me I could use a beautiful woman to look at for inspiration." He stares at the candles realizing he has nothing to light them with. "Uh...I don't suppose you've a lighter?"

She cleared her throat uncomfortably. Well, Anissina did warn her about him.

"By the fireplace." She left to retrieve it and held it out for him when she returned. "I should introduce myself. My name is Gisela von Christ."

He took the light and lit the candles.

"Hn. von Christ?" He leans forward. "Does that make you my wife?"

"Your daughter."

"That's disappointing," he says with a sigh. He opens the book outlaying the geography of his new world.

"And yes, Anissina made me feel welcome here in spite of the trauma of arriving here during such a crucial moment back on my world."

He turns to the next page. "So what do you do here, baby girl?"

...Baby girl? Ugh.

"I'm a healer, and the head of the medic division of His Majesty's military." She took a seat across from him. "What is it that you do in your world?"

He grins. "I guess you could call me the King of Thieves."

"A thief?" She can't see a man with her father's face doing anything dishonorable. "What is it that you steal?"

He rolled his eyes. "Don't take things so literally, my dear. My world is quite different from this one. My home is a place of chaos. This castle was destroyed in a flood many years ago. One never knows where the next disaster will happen: earthquake, flood, hurricanes, et cetera."

He flipped another page.

"Head of the medic division? That's impressive."

She rolled her eyes right back. "With all these same-but-different people popping up everywhere, how am I supposed to know if you're speaking literally or not?"

She sighed and focused on the flickering light atop the candle. "Thank you.

"Obviously, you don't have a daughter like me back home. Have you met any familiar faces in this world?"

"Hmm, another interview? I've only met you and Red. She mentioned Gwendal - I know him from back home but she seemed reluctant to introduce me to him. Other than him, Aldebert, and my son I'm not really close to anyone. She did say that there was a Belal in this world. He's a tyrant in my world and I suspect responsible for the majority of the crippling natural disasters."

He looked up from the pages. "Do you have a brother?" There is a hopeful edge to his tone and he's upset with himself for showing it.

"No, not an interview. I'm just curious." She listened to his list of names with a slow nod, and felt a sympathy for him when he mentioned a son, and even more when he asked if she had a brother. "No. I was raised an only child. I was adopted."

She wanted to ask about this son, but she didn't want to be too intrusive when she only just met him.

It was like a knife in the gut. But maybe it was better this way - it would be worse to see his son and for it to not really be his son.

"The fewer people I recognize the less sanity I'll lose during my stay here."

He closed the book, giving the woman his undivided attention. "So, adopted by the Gunter here? What's he like? Oh, and to answer your question I guess you can say that my latest job was leading a rebel army."

Leading an army, even a rebel one, sounded much better than a theif.

"He's a scholar, and one of the best swordsmen. He advises and teaches Yuuri Heika. I can't say that there is too much different between you two yet."
