[Farah is currently in the grocery store, taking her time pondering over the rows of fruits, vegetables, meat, and seafood. She looks conflicted, which is when she opens up her journal and asks a question to everyone.]

Hello, everyone! I'm Farah, and I'd like to ask everyone something! It may sound strange, but what's everyone's most disliked food ( Read more... )

I don't really like spicy things, but that's not an ingredient.

Oh, you don't like spicy, Emil? Noted! Can I ask you why, though? Is it just because it's hot? And in that case, would you still be able to eat something if it has a tiny little bit of spicy in it? It would be helpful to know, if it's okay!

I'm okay with a little bit of spice, I just don't like things that burn my tongue and make my nose run. I can't understand why anyone would want to eat something that hurts when you're eating it.

Oh, I know what you mean... Being able to eat spicy is more of an acquired taste, in my opinion... Some people start small, but end up loving it and always eat a lot of it! That's not good either, though, because excessive tasting of spicy things can dull one's taste buds, and to them, all kinds of dishes will then start to lose flavor! Still, they ARE good to warm up in the winter, and a little bit of spice with proper use can make most dishes better!

Richter really likes herbs and spices, so I've been trying to learn to like them too so I can cook things he enjoys. I know he said that he hates people with no individuality, but I really want to learn to like them for his sake.

That still depends on how spicy your friend likes it, Emil. I'm sure that you can make something with flavor that both of you can eat and enjoy. While it's very thoughtful and nice of you to be willing to change your own tastes to accommodate someone else's, you still shouldn't let that overshadow completely your own! I don't think your friend would want that either, especially if he knows that you're not very good with spicy to begin with!

Well, I need to learn to not be so wimpy about things in general. Learning to like spicy food is as good a start as any, I guess.

Actually, I don't know how spicy Richter likes it-- I've never really asked him about it. But he's never complained about my cooking before, so I must be doing something right!

...I can understand what you mean, and while they DO say that "you are what you eat", I don't think that spicy food would really help that... [She's actually thinking about this, which is why she's quite honest about it as well.]

Well, you can incorporate spicy ingredients in a dish without having the spicy flavor transpire through too heavily, so you can try that once in a while. You two sound very close, so I'm sure that he appreciates what you do for him! I don't think that you would need any help for this, but if you're really unsure, I'd be happy to help you experiment with spicy things in cooking! I'm not crazy about it either, but it IS nice to have from time to time!

Actually, what I meant was that I should learn to tolerate things that are a little bit uncomfortable so that I can get stronger.

[And cue a blush at the mention of him and Richter being close.]

Um, y-yes, we're very close. I think he appreciates it a lot, especially since he can't cook at all. I would like to try teaching him how someday, though. [More blushy~]

...Exactly my point, actually... I don't think that eating spicy foods can make you stronger - more open to different kinds of taste and experiences, maybe...

[She sees this. fff you are so cute]

Aha~ That WOULD be a problem. He likes spicy, but doesn't cook very well. Hence, you want to make something spicy to make him happy, but you can't eat spicy very well, which makes seasoning by taste a problem - even if you follow the recipe, it will be harder to tell if it really came out good or not. Is that right?

That's right. I want to make Richter happy, and since he likes herbs and spices, I want to cook things with those in them sometimes. I just need to learn how to eat them myself, that's all.
