I don't really see anything wrong with it. It's kinda funny. This is for three reasons.
1) This is a high school. High school is by and large attended and run by social and intellectual retards. 2) It's Hanson. It's stupid. It's not like they said "School runs an hour over each week until we raise $XXXX." They just played the most aggresively annoying but still danceable pop song in history. It'd be worse if they sounded alarms or played static over the PA. Think about it. It could be worse or more offensive. 3) Students have the most disposable income of any age range. it's not like the 16 year olds are really gonna miss that five bucks.
I really expected a little more injust article from you, Chris. Normally you're spot on with civil liberties and governments being retarded. This is just kinda silly. And if it helps you sleep at night, they're only 700 dollars away from shutting it off.
Yeah, this was more of a quick-thought personal reaciton...had to get to class and wanted to comment before link disappeared.
From personal experience, this is just cruel. I've had roommates who play a single song about as frequently as those students would be hearing it, and belive me it fucking sucks (kinda like chinese water tortue...with noise). Doesn't matter what song it is either. It actually starts to affect your mind after a while, and not in a good way.
The point I was aiming for was more it is still for the ultimate good, but it dilutes the pureness of the donations. You'd get that even if you had a positive incintive to get to a goal, but I feel that negatively coercing people to do it is just evil...Like I said before still donate, but do it through a different venue.
Creative idea, but ... nah; I don't think I could go there.
Better way to do it is how my high school raised heaps of money for the 40 Hour Famine - if the school reached $20,000, the heads of the English, Math, Languages & Social Science departments (all male) dressed up as the Spice Girls and performed "Wannabe" in front of the whole school.
