n-next to Ten-Ichi with friends, that is! :"D
the weather was gorgeous--we went to the mall first, did some window shopping (I was promised a new spring jacket! yeeee), had lunch, and RT'd to the
AGO, which was our initial plan. To be honest . . . it wasn't all that great xD; I'd expected a lot more. I began comparing it to the
ROM at first but then realized that it was totally unfair of me to do so, since it's a museum and not just an art gallery.
They were lacking in more modern works but at least the photography was something to look at. And I found that one painting that exists within every gallery // museum that made me go wow.
. . . YEAH OKAY BAD PICTURE, but this was the only one on google ;___;
Up there's Tony Scherman's Ciao Gaia. In the exhibit it was a hell of a lot nicer on the eyes--the red really popped and there was even blue in there, but I guess you can't see it too well in here. There was also one called the Rose, but I neglected to write down the name of the artist. Basically it's just a large, white, square canvas, and a simple yet extremely precise grid of rectangles drawn in with pinkish pencil. SHEER GENIUS. xD I was kind of "wtf" at first, but then I realized that it must have some value to have been featured in the AGO. After standing in front of it for five more minutes I began to love it, so we're even. :D
They had that "Light of the World" piece by William Holman Hunt--the one where it shows Jesus holding a latern, knocking on a door with no outer handle. That was probably the only one I liked by Hunt, LOL;;;
There were also a few pieces by Lawren Harris, my favourite Group of Seven artist--as much emphasis as possible on the favourite, his works never fail to amaze me; the way he painted Canada made it look like some fantasy place, haha . . . so I was pretty happy about that. And then we ended the day off with Japanese/Korean right across the street and a side order of agedashi tofu! ;u;
Man, I am going to miss March Break once it's over. (I haven't even played any Persona yet.)
edit:: I found her, her name is
Agnes Martin! omfg, look at that page. look at her works. they are fantastic. :"D
THAT ISN'T EVEN SARCASM, GUYS.
