False hopes, and some real ones too

I almost posted an entry that might have sounded like a pack of wild hyenas relishing in the chase of their fleeing dinner a few days ago.  I saw what I thought was a real article detailing the release of the FF7 remake for the PS3, and I was in the midst of typing a few thousand rows of "I told you so's" when I doubted myself for about 1/20th of a second and went to check it out a second time.  Alas, the screenshots featured were only of the video first shown from the PS3 "tech demo" that was released in 2005 just to show what the PS3 would be capable of doing.  Further reading waaay down on the website confirmed that the guy was just being a freak and wanted to make a point that people really do want the same thing I do.  I really would budget my finances just to get a PS3 solely for that game, if it came down to it.  The bonus is I wouldn't have to build a media center PC or purchase a blue-ray player separately if I did that, but those pros do not currently outweigh the cons of not having the system right now.  I've got a Wii for my home theater entertainment, and my DVD player with component cable output is plenty of movie quality for me, especially when I haven't had the urge to watch any movies or shows in awhile.

In other news, had quite a bit of fun this weekend.  Just about everyone I know had a birthday this month (fuck all of you!) and about the most expensive present I could afford any of them was a bunch of beer... it wasn't cheap beer either.  I did pitch in for a fraction of the cost of a PS3 for one.  A small fraction!  His girlfriend can (and probably did) front most of the cost for that.  And of course, anyone who has a birthday and is over the age of 21 usually hosts a grandiose birthday party, the newest guy at work not excluded.  Met a few people I've supposedly helped over the phone and never seen in person before, and saw the wild side of a few others that I thought were fairly professional beforehand.  Opinions have changed.  =P

At one of the parties, the theme was "moving out/birthday/st. patrick's day" so there was all kinds of stuff going on.  Some coworkers at a lakehouse thought they were moving out, turns out they don't have to anymore, so we just drank green concoctions, hung out, played games.  Among the games was Smash Bros, which I explicitly asked to play because the main dude of the party was the one who sold me my copy to me and told me that his girlfriend told him that I told her that I could kick anyone's ass at the game that I hadn't even played yet, hence why I was at the freakin' store to buy it from him!  Still with me?  So this girl that I work with took a challenge I gave to her, blew it up, and flaunted it amongst all of her other game-playin' buddies that apparently eat, sleep, drink, and breathe Smash Bros.  You know what?  I still didn't lose.  It was pretty bad, I even started not doing so well ON PURPOSE to appease some lost tempers.  After a few rounds, my urge to play was quickly depleted and I moved on to socializing instead.  Some more dudes showed up later on and it looked like they were pretty into the game, maybe even a match for me, but they were still... young.  I knew these kids had not much else to do in their lives, and there were girls at the party, so any guy with a brain and two heads knows what I chose to do instead.  ;-)

... sadly enough, they all had boyfriends.  I think I inadvertently caused a wreck with one of them, but that was more on the girl's fault than mine.  You can't fault me for merely talking.  *sigh*  security issues...

So, to conclude the entry, I will say that I may have finally met a match at Smash Bros.  Who are they?  My own family.  Give them a few gamecube controllers, and it's like they don't even have to relearn the game like I had to with the Wii-mote control.  I was even being nice and set my handicap pretty high because I thought they'd need to start at the bottom of the learning curve.  Oh no... I was wrong.  I lost the first match just barely.  I got fucking wasted the 2nd match.  Next time, there won't be a handicap, bizatches.  *shaking of the fist*

That's all.  It's back to the serious life after a nearly overflowing weekend.  As much fun as it was, I honestly hope I don't have another one in quite awhile.  My ears almost ring as if from a rock concert, people were always so loud.  Besides, I've got school, finances, and house projects to get figured out, most of which are time sensitive!  Ah, to be a grown adult...
