Droogs and all that bolshy cal
Hildur asked what "Droog" meant, seeing as how I say it at the end of most of my posts and some of my emails; it's been something Nick and I have said regarding each other for years. Probably since we met; can't remember, it's been so long. James probably doesn't know what it means either, but just goes along with it because I'm a bit odd. "Droog" is a term of ernst endearment meaning "friend" that Anthony Burgess uses in his novella A CLOCKWORK ORANGE. There's "droog" "droogs" "droogy", they all mean the same; just another term instead of "friend" that says the same but means something greater and a bit more personal (to me anyway). Burgess creates this language mixed with a bit of Russian and other invented terms. "Bolshy" is a term meaning "big or great", and "cal" simply means "shit". He created, or stole from Russian, a whole language for the book. It's wonderful. You should all read it, or re-read it as the case may be. James, if you like Chuck Palahniuk, you'll love this book by Burgess. If you wanted to start a "book club" and weren't sure what to start with, this would be a good one...or anything by Palahniuk. I found another webpage that labeled "ultra-violent" as "rape", which if you read the book is blatently wrong. "Ultra-violent" by itself just means to kill or murder, as I understand it. "Ultra-violent in-out in-out" means to rape. But, I haven't "studied" the book, so I guess I could be the one that's wrong; then again, most of the words on that page were completely wrong, hence the reason I used the link I did.
