Procrastination Will Be the Death of Me, Part ii: Drabbles: Off Season

Jun 15, 2009 15:29

So, I officially stuffed up my first exam and since I've already snuck on here, I may as well post these before they get out of date. (and before I start the last minute cramming for my next exam.)

All are set during the transfer season and inevitably incorporates transfer rumours and Confederation Cup-ness but all are un-related to each other.

Title: Drabble: Fear

Summary: Xabi’s continued link to Real Madrid is not just alarming the fans of LiverpoolFC
Feedback: Would be greatly appreciated! Good/bad, either is fine. Thanks!

He loved football. He truly did. He just hated transfer season and contracts.

The boss had said he didn’t want to sell him.

Rafa had said.

Yet still, every morning, he would wake with trepidation that would not go away until he had called and heard the reassuring voice on the other end of the line saying, “I’m still here.”

He tried not to let the rumours get to him. Tried hard to believe Xabi when he said he wanted to stay.

But until they start next season beside one another in midfield, that fear will remain his constant companion.

Title: Drabble: Letting Go
Pairing: Daniel Agger/Steve Finnan

Summary: Daniel finally accepts Finnan’s departure
Feedback: Would be greatly appreciated! Good/bad, either is fine. Thanks!

It’s been one season, he mused. How fast it had gone. The days just came, one after another. Caught up in the constant battle of injuries, contracts and playing time, he barely had the opportunity to miss him.

Yet it had always been there. The intangible ache, the yearning for that familiar warmth and comfort that never came. And it wouldn’t come next season either.

It was time to move on, to accept the truth. Maybe they’ll meet in the off season; maybe they won’t. But they’ll not be team mates again. Signing that contract had sealed that path forever.

Title: Victories
Pairing: Fernando Torres/Sergio Ramos
Rating: G
Disclaimer: Any fictitious relationships described within is true in the land of imagination only.
Summary: Set during Spain's time at Confederation Cup
Feedback: Would be greatly appreciated! Good/bad, either is fine. Thanks!

Confederation Cup favourites. Spain is in formidable form and boasts arguably the best squad at the moment. Fernando smiled inwardly. Having had a taste after winning the Euros, he craved another trophy.

But it wasn’t the chance to win that he loved most about internationals. It was the excuse it gave him to spend more time than what would seem innocuous with Sergio Ramos. As they trained, dined and travelled together, they also lived and slept together.

Grasping hold of these fleeting moments in between their own club duties, they basked in the glory and privilege of representing their country.

Title: Apart

Summary: Daniel speaks with Fernando before Spain's tournament
Feedback: Would be greatly appreciated! Good/bad, either is fine. Thanks!

“Good luck, Nando.”

“Thanks, Danny,” The reply was wistful and melancholy, “I miss you.”

Silence.

“You, too.” There was a slight catch in his voice as he swallowed the lump in his throat. “Maybe just a little bit.”

Fernando chuckled into the receiver and Daniel admitted grudgingly, “All right, more than a little bit. I wish I was there with you. But then if I was Spanish myself, I might not appreciate the exoticness of your lovely accent quite so much. Anyway, go win some trophies, Fernando. You know where to find me after.”

“Will do, Danny… see you soon.”

Title: Glimpses of the Future
Pairing: Daniel Agger/Martin Škrtel
Rating: G

Summary: Reflects on the two defender's season
Feedback: Would be greatly appreciated! Good/bad, either is fine. Thanks!

It had been weird, being friends this last season. Conflicting emotions surfaced in their relationship as they both nursed injuries and fought for the right to play football. Despite it all, they remained fast friends, the draw they felt towards each other out-weighing their competition.

Now, they can enjoy their companionship without the jealousy hovering at every turn. A few precious weeks of unadulterated bliss.

Sooner or later, they won’t have to fight anymore. It will be Danny and Martin in front of Pepe, keeping their goals safe in front of all the fans. Danny and Martin; the perfect partnership.

Title: Missed Chances
Pairing: Fernando Torres/Martin Škrtel
Rating: G
Disclaimer: Any fictitious relationships described within is true in the land of imagination only.
Summary: Martin is plagued by images of Fernando
Warnings: Olalla is involved.
Feedback: Would be greatly appreciated! Good/bad, either is fine. Thanks!

The lithe striker was constantly in the news. Fucking Confederation Cup. Martin flicked the television off irritably. It was bad enough having to be around the attractive blonde everyday during the season. Now he had to endure more Fernando-onslaught during his holidays.

Martin sighed.

He had his opportunities, when they had found themselves alone. But he had let them slide, thinking that they’ll have another chance, some other time.

Then it was too late. Ever since Olalla became pregnant with Fernando’s child, even if Fernando initiated it, he wouldn’t have followed through.

He’ll always wonder, but he’ll never know.
