*sniffles*

This is so sad. :(

I hate the way Dan is treating Martin, as if the thing between them had just been about sex and could be ended or forgotten just like that. It's not fair on Martin, and I feel so bad for him. On the other hand, I can guess where Dan is coming from. Sophia said something about public opinion being that heterosexual love is still superior to homosexual love, and whereas I don't like it, I think it's true in a way. Footballers are role models, they have to fit in, they shouldn't attract too much attention on things that aren't related to football. They have a reputation to uphold. They have to make their clubs and their fans proud. As things are, Dan and Martin don't have a public future. And maybe the kid wasn't even Dan's idea, but I can see why he went along with it. He's entitled to some kind of happiness, even if it means that he'll have to end what he has with Martin. (Not everyone might think that way, some might be perfectly content having a family as well as a lover, but I suppose your Dan has reasons for not wanting that.) And don't we all know that it's a lot easier to get over someone when he hurt you? Maybe Dan is acting like this for his own sake as well as Martin's - after all, the ending shows that he still cares about him. And I'm sure Dan will have his fair share of sadness when it kicks in that he's lost Martin.

Only a couple of writers can make me read baby!fic and not cringe all the time (because that's what I usually do when I have to talk or read about babies - I just don't see the appeal, really), and you're one of them, which should tell you how much I adore your fics. :)

Oh, I'm sorry for making you feel sad. I can't seem to write anything happy. =(

Thanks so much for your huge babble! I love it when things invoke thinking and babbling!

Well, I agree and disagree with you in some of the things. I think yes, footballers are role models and in the current situation, a happy heterosexual family is what they want to portray, but we shouldn't be accepting that. We should be fighting for equal rights and acceptance that it doesn't matter if the player is gay or straight, he's still just a footballer and what his private life is like, unless it's illegal, should not come into account. ( and by 'we' I mean the general community, and I know 'illegal' is a bit of a grey scale because homosexuality *is* illegal, isn't it, in some countries?)

But it IS sad, isn't it, that for a footballer to come out as homosexual, the likely result would be that quite a lot of fans may be upset/ disgusted/ outraged. *sigh*.

Regarding the ending things with Martin, in my perspective, because I like monogamy, it wouldn't matter if the Martin figure was male or female, I would want the Dan character to be faithful to his partner and child. Having said that, I have nothing against polygamy, as long as all parties involved are aware of and consenting.

Really, really thank you for your lovely compliments and your giant, insightful comment. =) I'm glad you could enjoy a baby fic =P. Babies aren't that bad, really. I particularly like babies of the non-human species. haha.
