I'm hoping that someone local can help me out here. I'm looking to borrow a Firewire external harddrive enclosure. It has to be PATA compatible (3.5" IDE). Anyone who has one that I can borrow for a couple of hours, please do email me at omaha (at) eskimo (dot) com?
I'm trying to update my old Quicksilver Mac so the girls can use it (and we can dump their Windows box, which is just crap because it runs 98), but ran into problems trying to upgrade the OSX on it. I've got Jaguar (10.2) on it, but I can't upgrade to Panther or beyond because I upgraded the processor a couple of years ago, and the processor upgrade doesn't support Panther.
Let me rephrase that...the processor upgrade doesn't support upgrading to Panther. As long as you have Panther on the harddrive already and then install it on the machine, it will work fine. Don't ask me why. I haven't a clue.
Anyway, also clueless for me is why Apple doesn't allow one to make external harddrives connected via USB into start-up disks, which I have to in order to do the upgrade. Thus the need for a firewire, rather than USB, connector.
Thanks! :)
