I make this usually for special occasions, but it's also nice when transitioning pupper back to kibble after some fido-friendly BRAT dieting post GI upset. I have been known to sneak a few bites of the mash when it is fresh out of the pot.
BUY IT
1 part chicken, no need to really prep
1 part carrots, cut off anything you don't want fido to eat
water to cover
BREAK IT
1. bring to boil over high heat & simmer for 1-2hrs.
2. honestly, I usually just forget about this and look up an hour or two later, realize it's done, and remove from heat. >_>
3. when cool enough to handle, remove chicken & shred. use your favorite tools for this. I usually use: two forks and/or just my hands squishing & pulling the chicken.
4. same as 3 but with the carrots.
5. mix the parts together until you're bored of mixing -- approximately 15-30 seconds in my case.
EAT IT -- PARTS
1/4-1/2c leftover broth
1/4-1/2c water
1/4-1/2c mash
1/2-3/4 of fido's usual kibble
EAT IT -- what a spoiled doggo
1. microwave everything but the kibble for ~30 seconds.
2. once it is warm, stir in that kibble, & serve immediately.
FREEZE IT
1. preprepare the broth + mash combo in meal sized portions.
2a. pull from freezer the night before & resume EAT IT.
2b. or microwave in 30-second increments until you figure out how long it takes your machine to get the food puck a lukewarm liquid.
VARIANT
if fido hates kibble, add it before microwaving. then microwave longer and let it sit.
- result: kibble absorbs some of the broth & now fido has "wet food". ;)
