Chapter Six: My Christmas List Turns Naughty

Dec 13, 2010 18:24

[ The thing is, talking about spies had gotten me thinking about the spy in our army last summer, and now I had an idea to scoop up some badly needed information. If I could get a bug - or four - in the Smith house, we might be able to stay ahead in the game. My plan was pretty simple: get everyone in the family a present, stick some sort of ( Read more... )

I could probably whip up something decently electronic.

You want to work with the other guy? [ a thumb in Dist's direction ]

I'm looking for bugs small enough to fit in Christmas presents to the Smiths. It would be nice if they could transmit back to something, but if I have to break in and steal the recorders later, well, I can handle that too.

Depends on his methods.

A radio transmitter should be pretty simple, even with the limited technology there, very nice and basic things they are. I haven't been able to get radio signals to transmit outside this town, but inside should be a much easier task.

Okay, I know nothing about radios besides "I don't like NPR," so I don't know how to answer that.

On a scale of one to ten, are you awesome or awful as a team player?

Oh, I don't know, that's really simplifying things. It depends on the situation at hand, really, though I'm used to calling the shots. Though that's more difficult here.

What do you have in mind?

Look, the first guy I talked to doesn't want to work with anyone else. I figure, you can each work on two, and then if the town figures out how to stop one of them from broadcasting, the other'll still work.

Two transmitters should be quite simple to make, even here. Though the question is, who's going to put them in there when we're finished?

The other guy'll put one of his transmitters in a watch for Mr. Smith. If you can put one of yours in a music box, that's Mrs. Smith's. If you can get the boy's into a ball and he gets the girl's into a stuffed animal, I'll deliver them as Christmas presents. 'Tis the season and stuff.
