30-Day Challenge - Day 8

Okay, I keep doing the 30 Day Challenge from time to time when I feel like it.

Day 8 - A character’s parent(s) or guardian.

Meet Louise Winford, Pascal’s mother. His father has been out of the picture since Pascal was 2 years old and he keeps being out of the picture. So this is about Louise.

She is a microbiologist and spent several years working on a research project studying bacteria in tap water in different US states (if any microbiologist is reading this and cringing, you’re more than welcome to help me make it sound less stupid! :)) and traveling across the country while bringing her two kids up, Pascal and his older brother Robert. They all spent a lot of time living in an RV with Louise’s [still unnamed] boyfriend (who is an ornithologist, mostly studies sparrows and ducks and is quite a awesome guy).

Eventually Louise had to sacrifice this lifestyle for a more quiet life for the sake of her children, and her family settled in a town of Cornfield, Missouri, where she started teaching in a local university (Pascal was around 11 at that point and didn’t like the idea of staying in Cornfield at all). Louise is more inclined to research work and is not very happy to be a teacher but she always does what she thinks is best for her children (Pascal is convinced she secretly blames him for ruining her career by existing but it’s not true).

Louise is tenacious and bossy and is still trying to control her offsprings' lives even though they’ve long since moved out. She is more attached to Pascal than his brother Bobby (both because Pascal is the youngest and has issues and also because Bobby is more of his father’s son and doesn’t see eye-to-eye with her and Pascal on anything). Pascal is really attached to his mother even though he wishes she’d treat him less like a kid. They see each other regularly but Pascal is the one who visits more often (he doesn’t want her to see the mess in his apartment - see previous entries if you don’t know what I mean).

I’d like to dedicate this entry to my mother (even though she probably won’t read it). Mom, you’re awesome.
