I think, that when (or if, I suppose) I have grandchildren that I do not want to be called Grandma or Gramma. I think I want to be called something like Marguerite Helen "Margie" Cunha was called by her grandchildren: "Ava."
"When she became a grandmother she transitioned from 'Gram' to 'Ta' to finally 'Ava.' Then when she became a great-grandmother, she was affectionately known as 'Old Va.'"
I happened upon Margie in an obituary from the Fresno Bee online. I've been reading obituaries for the past half hour now. It may sound depressing, but actually it is soothing me as compared to my earlier state. Things here are not horrible, but not good. They are uncomfortable and kind of lonely, mostly in the sense that I cannot understand what anyone is saying. I wish I knew Dutch.
