Why must people waste my time? Co-worker kept saying I should go to Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA because the free part is really great. Don’t bother with paying to see the big acts he says. The plan was to meet up at 3 PM. First the traffic sucked. I was the lone passenger car in a sea of SUV’s. The volume wasn’t bad it was just people driving ultra slow for no reason. You’ve seen one tree you seen them all and New Jersey is full of them. There is no law that says you can’t push further on the accelerator when you encounter a hill either. There is a law about keeping right and getting out of peoples way. God I’m the one with the bad transmission. If I can go the speed limit and go flying pass these people when they finally got out of my way (three lanes pick one) I’m certain a car with a transmission that isn’t banging away can do it too.
Ok I get there at 3:30 because of the pocky people. I text co-worker, nothing.
I wander in. I hear one song from a good Latin music band and they are done. I notice the tents are set up more for eating that for enjoying music. Bad sight lines from the few chairs lined up in rows and to the side of the stage. The next venue is a long ways off through a see of crappy food stands. Get there, they end the set after one song. Next tent, same thing. All have the same crappy set up of tables instead of chairs and to be honest, crappy musicians. I conclude music is an after thought of Musikfest. It really should be called Unhealthy Food Fest of Bethlehem.
Finally at 5 PM I get txt that he’s about to leave from his parents house (went up there since they live much closer than his place) At 6 PM I get another that says he’ll be in this area. That was worthless. That was like saying I’ll meet someone at Convent Gardens and not give an exact location. I give up at 7 PM and head home.
In all I hear about 20 minutes of music, most of it between mediocre and dreadful. It gave garage bands a bad name. If you can’t sing, don’t be a lead singer. If I hear one more flat, monotone singer I'll scream. Also a note to the bad musicians. Don’t spend 5 minutes between songs with complete silence because your guitar is slightly out of tune and you can’t get it in absolute perfect tune. You're outdoors, it will never stay in tune. Besides the one Latin band, the guy playing the keyboard contraption that rang a bunch of church bells was cool. He did not have tables with his set up. Just chairs and a lot of people watching from every vantage point.
I should have gone bike rideing instead. I wasted a perfectly good Saturday afternoon
