Don't know why I didn't notice it before, but it finally dawned on me why this year's video looks so much better...
Premiere uses a firewire connection to capture video from the camcorder. VideoWave (the program I was using before) wouldn't recognize the device if I tried that connection, so I had to use the USB cable... it's like the difference between digital and analog...
Makes me consider redoing those old videos...
