Last weekend
Went to see Spiderman 3. I still like 2 better, but 3 was entertaining as well.
Had dinner at McGinty's. Good pub grub... :)
Downtown Silver Spring is another cool place to hang out... :)
Three weekends ago
Friday - Dinner and a movie, this time
DuClaw and
The Invisible. DuClaw is a cool place to eat and hang out, especially if you like microbrews. The movie was interesting, but... wait for cable.
Saturday - went out for Shabu-Shabu, with
9thcircleofhell,
laitaine2004,
muse_neko, and
summer_queen. That was a fascinating experience. They start your own pot of broth simmering, and bring you plates and more plates of veggies and your choice of meat/seafood, for you to add to the pot and swish them around until they're cooked (hence the name, which stands for the "swish-swish" of the food).
That was pretty cool, and I would definitely try it again--but I'll order less food next time... :D
Washington Post article Washington City Paper article Sunday - We stopped for tea and scones at the 9thcircleofhell (or rather, at her place :), before the LOTR marathon at the
Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse. Sometime during Fellowship, I realized that I've been watching LOTR only at big events. Sure, when we first got the DVDs we watched them at home--once, maybe twice. But most of my viewing has been Trilogy Tuesday and similar marathon sessions. With lots of other fans who know exactly why you're reacting the way you do, and know exactly when to cheer, and will join you in hailing the victorious dead... or will flip open their cellphones when the beacons are lit... :D
(That last one I'll admit I was not expecting.)
They crammed the trivia contest, Gollum impersonation, and costume contest between Two Towers and Return of the King. The winners of the costume contest were an excellent Aragorn and Arwen; and the guy who did the impression of Gollum at the Forbidden Pool just about brought the house down.
Apparently it is the intention of our local meetup group to turn these Trilogy events into a Rocky-Horror-style experience. And that's just fine with us... "Kiwibird" was working on a list of props, in the breaks between the films...
