So this semester they completely departed from ye goode olde CT system (cum tempore, meaning that times were given at the full hour but actually had an additional 15 minutes, the so-called academic quarter, to be added to the starting and subtracted from the closing time).
Which is annoying enough, because the trains from Solingen arrive so that it is perfectly possible to get to the lectures at either 5 or 10 minutes past the full hour, but NOT to get there in time for the full hour unless you take the really slow train that goes half an hour earlier, which however means that you sit around in the lecture hall for half an hour and, more importantly, have to get up half an hour earlier.
But it gets worse.
Not only did they switch completely to ST (those who know italics Latin will doubtlessly have deducted that this means sine tempore) - no, they also assimilated the times altogether.
Whereas in the old days, some classes would start at the full hour (with or without the academic quarter) and some at the half, some at the odd and some at the even, now ALL classes for ALL students (at least at the Humanities department, I don't know about the others) start at the full even hour and end 90 minutes later. In other words, ALL classes now go from 8 - 9:30, 10 - 11:30, 12 - 1:30, 2 - 3:30, 4 - 5:30, 6 - 7:30. Only the very early and very late classes may deviate from this.
This means that ALL students (roughly 15,000 for the Humanities) crowd the trains at the same time, ALL students run to the libraries at the same time, ALL students try to get their coffee or their lunch at the same time, and ALL students try to get rid of their coffee or their lunch at the same time.
To make things more interesting, ONE of the formerly FOUR copiers in the library for English and Romanic Studies has broken down completely, and TWO refuse to work via the automatic paper feed (the quickest way to copy piles of loose sheets). Leaves ONE that works as it should. Occasionally. Sometimes, the paper feed fucks up as well. At those times you're supposed to beg the librarian for help, who'll tell you that she can't help you except by calling a technician who'll drop by three hours later. NO WAY are you allowed to remove the offending sheets yourself and press the appropriate buttons to get the copier back in working order.
On the other hand, getting the copier back in working order is among the things I get paid for at work... *shifty eyes*
And because insurgent copiers aren't enough, TWO of the SIX washrooms have been closed down for unknown reasons. Which is especially fun when ALL students of the female gender have the same half hour in which to visit the remaining washrooms. :D

Oder aber von irgendwem, der eine Horde Kinder jemandem anpreist, der eindeutig einen Favoriten hat. "Aber sieh doch, sind denn die anderen nicht auch toll?"

Seit Neuestem haben sie das gute alte CT-System mit der akademischen Viertelstunde abgeschafft.
Was schon nervig genug ist, denn die Züge aus Solingen fahren so, dass man entweder um 5 oder um 10 nach Punkt an der Uni sein kann, aber nicht pünktlich zur vollen Stunde. Man kann nur den Zug eine halbe Stunde vorher nehmen, was bedeutet, dass man dann eine halbe Stunde dumm rumsitzt, davon mal abgesehen, dass man auch eine halbe Stunde früher aufstehen muss.
Das reicht aber nicht.
Es ist nämlich jetzt nicht nur alles auf ST umgestellt - nein, sie haben auch die Stundenpläne komplett angeglichen. Während früher manche Kurse um Punkt und andere um Halb, mal mit und mal ohne akademisches Viertel, manche zur geraden und manche zur ungeraden Stunde angefangen haben, fangen sie jetzt alle um Punkt Gerade an und hören 90 Minuten später auf. Also gehen jetzt ALLE Seminare für ALLE Studenten (mindestens alle an der Philosophischen Fakultät, mit dem Rest kenn ich mich nicht aus) von 8 - 9:30, 10 - 11:30, 12 - 13:30, 14 - 15:30, 16 - 17:30 und 18 - 19:30. Nur bei den frühen und späten Kursen gibt es ein paar Ausnahmen.
Das heißt, dass ALLE Studenten (an der PhilFak immerhin knapp 15.000) zu den gleichen Zeiten Bahnfahren, in die Büchereien gehen, Kaffee oder Essen kaufen oder wegbringen.
Um es noch ein bisschen spannender zu gestalten, ist EINER der ehemals VIER Kopierer in der anglistisch-romanistischen Bibliothek komplett kaputt, und bei ZWEI weiteren ist der Papiereinzug hinüber, so dass auch Loseblattsammlungen nicht mehr "mal eben" kopiert werden können. Bei EINEM tut er's noch - meistens. Manchmal verschluckt er sich auch, und dann muss man der Bibliothekarin bescheid sagen, die dir sagt, dass sie dir leider nicht helfen kann, aber sie ruft die Techniker an, die kommen dann in drei Stunden. Auf GAR KEINEN FALL darf man selber die bösen Blätter entfernen und die entsprechenden Knöpfe drücken, um den Kopierer wieder in Gang zu bringen.
Andererseits gehört es bei der Arbeit mit zu meinen Tätigkeiten, den Kopierer wieder in Gang zu bringen... *unschuldig dreinblick*
Und weil rebellische Kopierer immer noch nicht genug sind, sind ZWEI der SECHS Kloräume aus unbekanntem Grund defekt. So wird es wirklich witzig, wenn alle Studentinnen in den gleichen halben Stunden die restlichen Kloräume aufsuchen. :D
