Winter

So the neighbors have moved out as of yesterday, leaving me in Wuthering Heights by myself. It's been one night, and so far I'm not feeling too bad about it. I think my cat is taking it worse, because she likes playing with the neighbor's cat, even though he's a giant and could clobber her in a split second.

I think I finally understand what seasons are. It's cold here. VERY cold. I woke up this morning and saw my breath. My shower freezes everyday, forcing me to begin the ritual of defrosting it an hour before I actually want to shower. And Hakuchodai is windy. Cold + wind = Emma's version of hell, I'd imagine. I don't like that part so much, but the snow is very very pretty at least. And really fun to play with. Winter is still a novelty for me, I think.

I am becoming quite a karaoke and onsen addict. My Muroran friends and I are always heading out to the onsen or for a night of karaoke. It's amazing how much hot spring water can raise the core temperature of your body - to the point where you can sit on snow and still feel warm. I think this is why people can live in Hokkaido. They go bathe in super hot water for an hour or so, and it keeps them warm for the rest of the night. I honestly think that Americans could learn a thing or two about bathing from Japanese customs... this is one area where they have us beat.

This is late but, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Birthday Pockets!
