Wizards at War, by Diane Duane

Wizards at War follows immediately after the events of Wizard's Holiday. Kit and Nita return to Earth with five days left of their spring break. No sooner have they returned than Tom and Carl come by to tell them that the world -- well, the universe, actually -- is about to end.

Worse, wizards are going to start forgetting about wizardry, starting with the oldest wizards first. So, yes, this means that the "young wizards" are going to be the only wizards left in the universe for duration of this volume.

Fortunately, the Powers aren't rationing wizardry as carefully as they usually do, so all of the wizards left have whatever wizardry their physiologies can handle available to them. And, in the case of Filif particularly, that's quite a bit.

With the exception of Qwelt, who presumably has better things to do, we see all of the young wizards to date: S'Ree, Darryl, Ronan, the entire population of the Motherboard World. . . and meet some new ones.

And so much happens in this book: we travel from one end of the galaxy to the other, meet several interesting new species, watch amazing things happen. Whew! It's hard to catch your breath.

I recommend this book very, very, highly.
