Quick post

I suck I know sorry. It's just been so sunny and beautiful that the last thing I want to do is sit in front of a computer for a prolonged period of time.

So on Friday we went to Portland to see the opera The Magic Flute. All the music was Mozart and the set and costumes were all designed by Maurice Sandack (of Where the Wild things Are children's book). So you can imagine what a treat it was visually. Like a seriously amazing set design, the music was also amazing. The only thing I was not prepared for was the length. We were there for 3 1/2 hours! Om my goodness the last 30 minutes were really hard to stay awake even though I was enjoying it. We also had dinner up there at Portland's oldest and first bar & restaurant called Hubers. I got a delicious chicken picatta!

The garden is looking great. We've got an apple on our young tree, some peaches growing on 1 of the peach trees, figs growing too. The spring cool weather plants are also going great. I have been hand picking salads almost everyday using 2 different kinds of lettuce, kale, radishes and herbs all from the garden beds. I toss in kalamata olives and feta cheese in them and they are pure heaven. Best tasting salads I've ever had in my life. But of course the garden is an unending project. We are constantly pulling weeds, planting new things, checking what gets eaten by bugs and where, and fertilizing things on a rotating basis. Last year when we first began growing and building beds all of our focus was on the backyard and the front yard got totally neglected and the dandelions in the grass out of control. This year I have been putting a lot of heavy hours out front planting new bulbs, pulling (hundreds) of weeds, and mulching to keep weeds out. There is a whole section of lawn we are pulling up manually to add in plants, herbs and flowers since they add more to the landscape and are not so difficult to care for as a grass lawn. I refuse to use herbicides ever so I am stuck doing everything the old fashion way (by hand). It truly is a labor of love.

Figs!

Makings of an awesome salad :)

First ever apple!

This is an example of the kind of projects that constantly demand attention. The backside of the house was overgrown with tall grass and weeds. It was insane really and horrible looking, so I spent a good 2 hours pulling everything, planting ferns & flowers and then laying down mulch so it stays clean and nice. the backs and side along the house are really the only areas we are not growing edible food, and so I neglected it for nearly a full 2 years. Now I am regretting allowing it to get so out of hand.

And here are random photos, the 2 boquets of flowers are flowers all from our own garden. I love spring!!
