[041] Say Goodbye

May 16, 2009 22:03

[due to being locked in the Doctor's suite for his own safety, Oliver hasn't yet had a chance to check out that new red door. however, he's managed to convince the TARDIS to let him out at last! so, naturally, the first thing he does is head to Chicago]

[when Oliver enters the city, he finds himself in a gray suit and tie with a vest on underneath. not only that, but he has a gray fedora on his head, which he immediately takes off and looks at before putting it back on. it's a hat! he never wears hats. not to mention this suit looks more expensive than any clothing he's ever owned] Well, this is weird. I look rich or something. Wow, is this ever fancy!

[when he's done marveling at (and poking) his attire, he turns his attention to his surroundings and finds that he's come out in an alley. stepping out onto the street, he notices that he's not too far from the lake--you can smell it in the air, even. in fact, he thinks he might recognize one of those nearby buildings! and as much as he wants to meet up with the Doctor...that is just cool]

Hey, I think it's the Field Museum! Look at that! [starts heading toward it--he can search for the captain in there, after all!]

[oddly enough, as he goes, he notices quite a bit of murmuring from the people on the street around him. as he looks to see what's the matter, he finds people staring at him--and hastily looking away when he looks in their direction. in fact, some people seem to be trying to quickly get away from him. a boy nearby starts pointing at him, and the mother swats his hand away immediately, scooping the boy up and hurrying off, talking to him in hushed tones]

[mutters to himself] I didn't think I was talking that loudly... Maybe my joke about Brummies in Chicago was true.

[trying to shake off his worries at his reception, he heads up the steps to the Field Museum of Natural History, making a point not to look at anyone because he really doesn't like how they seem to be scared of him. and is it just him, or is the crowd of museum visitors thinning?]

"Hey, Boss! Boss, wait!"

[not liking the sound of that, Oliver ducks quickly inside the museum.]

[surprisingly, the people at the ticket counter move away the moment they see him, and he finds himself looking straight through to a terrified attendant]

"M-m-mister Day! Sorry, sir, I didn't know you'd be coming today. Go right in, sir!"

[Oliver doesn't quite have time to come up to a reply to that more coherent than the "What!?" running through his head before the doors burst open behind him]

"Boss! We can't be here today, Boss. We gotta get ya outta here. Da coppers are looking to pinch ya!"

[stares at the man for a moment, speechless (after glancing behind him to make sure there isn't a mobster there he could be talking to instead), but three other men in suits burst in behind him, making their aim very clear]

"Too late! Youse guys get inside, we'll lose 'em in the exhibits! C'mon, Boss, we've gotta scram."

[Oliver's expression is a mixture of horror and disbelief when one of the men grabs him by the arm, and he finds himself running with them into the museum proper]
