Is it just me, or is Stargate's progression from SG1 planet of the week adventure, to Atlantis recovered alien space station that borders on an amazing new threat, to SGU's ship of people thrown together by circumstance on a ship the other side of the Universe that can't get home somehow very familiar ( Read more... )

I and Cam were discussing th next spinoff series, we decided a prequel about the Ancients on Earth, with an 80s rockballad themetune and a total disregard for canon.

It's nice to know I've not watched Trek twice!

(Although I've inhaled enough "secondary screenings" of different series of Trek to vaguely understand the allusions in your post.)

We pretty much knew from SG:A that it was following the path of Star Trek. However I think that the SG franchise has made more of a continuum (har har), with the villains blending into each other more organically than in Star Trek. Also, more humour makes the archetypes more human.
