Of basketball and bibbulmun...

Well we lost our basketball semi-final today, knocking us out for the season. Final score was 32-30 after our opponents hit a 3-pointer with about 15 seconds on the clock. It's always disappointing to lose and be eliminated, but frankly I'm not in the least unhappy for a couple of reasons.

Mainly, the team we would have played next week (in the preliminary final), consist mainly of jerks. I've never enjoyed any of the games we played against them, because they have all turned aggro. (Note, it's not just us, the other teams in our division have the same opinion of them). Assuming we managed to win that game, which we would have reasonable odds in, we would then play the team that finished first, who were blatantly in the wrong division, and would almost certainly have defeated us soundly. Overall I'll take the result today, losing to a team at our level in a hardfought friendly match. There's really not much more I could ask for (short of winning the division, which was never likely)

Secondly, I'm very happy with my own play today, scoring 12 points (4/5 3 pointers) and a bunch of rebounds and overall good defence. From my perspective it's probably the best game I've played.

I hung around afterwards to watch firefly21's team grab a spot in the grand final in a fortnight. My advice to firefly21: Make sure you have a sub. Also, "You're a forward!" (note, with certain combinations of players on court you are not a forward :))

In non-basketball related news, since we have a long weekend coming up, I was looking at going bibbulmuning overnight. Plans are very vague right at the moment, but if people are interested in a 2 (or 3) day hike on September 29-October 1 let me know.
