I know it has been ages since I last posted about this, but there is an end to the saga! Earlier this year, the triplets' house was put under foreclosure and then they were told to vacate. They did, over several months and after many returns to take whatever they could from the house. Our favorite trip was when they hauled away a shed/garage. In order to get it in front of the house, they used a chainsaw to cut 2 feet off of the overhang of the roof. There have been a couple incidents with very shady contractors coming and going since then, but it has been remarkably quiet without them.
I'm sad that this utterly disgusting house is sitting across the street and in turn is lowering the value of my home. But the peace and quiet without the raucous parties and people coming and going all day long may be worth it. From what I hear, the roof is destroyed (there is a tarp over the kitchen), the house was left filthy with animal waste, and due to the severe flooding we have had over the last two years - the basement is full of mold. I don't think that the bank will be able to sell it at a value they find acceptable. The house was purchased for $459k in 2004 and it only worth maybe $80 in the condition it is in. So for the time being, we have an empty house across the street and I will take comfort in knowing that this very minor problem is my largest concern as a homeowner.
